The only way I see AP coming to Toronto is on a two year deal due to COVID-19, and even then I'm wishing more than actually suggesting it will happen.
- Atomic Wedgie

A two-year deal might make a lot of sense though it does carry a lot of risk for a 30+ year old D-man. He just may be snookered enough because of COVID-19 to do it.

Marner took more of a discount with his 6y and lower AAV compared to Matthews - and somehow he's the one that is 'public enemy #1'?

So far, Marner has proven to be more effective and more valuable than Matthews - who is lagging behind in his development, and should really focus on becomign valuable in the d-zone as well.

Marner is the most important asset on this team - Tavares #2, Rielly #3, Matthews #4, Anderssen #5, and Hyman #6.

Mitch isn’t overpaid a dime.

He’s the engine of the team.

If anyone could put up 120pts on this team, it’s Mitch.

McDavid, McKinnon, Barkov are the only 3 young forwards I would take over Marner. And not too sure about McKinnon and Barkov.

Marner is in the exact same category as Matthews, Pettersson, Barzal, Eichel, Draisaitl, Point and Pastrnak.

It’s not nonsense

Marner had the chance to become the fan favourite by taking a hometown discount Instead he became public enemy #1

Marner for Jones

Or just take even close to his comparables.

Matthews is too lazy to backcheck and is quite one-dimensional so far.
He's played 2nd line mostly vs Bruins in playoffs and still didn't really come out as a difference maker.

I take Tavares + Marner duo over Matthews + Nylander any time on my hockey team.

that's just a matter of preferences/personal opinion.

out of those, I would put Barzal, Pettersson and Marner as best of the group.

put off your Leafs glasses and for one moment look at Matthews for what he is.
He's so for not shown to be willing to put the extra effort in on defense.
The guy is built as a tank and he hardly wants to use his body while playing hockey.
Offensively he's top3 FW in NHL for sure (if you look at goalscoring, not playmaking) but defensively there are for sure 10-15 FWs better than him.

I would take Matthews in a heartbeat over Barkov. MacKinnon might have an edge on AM34 now but he's also 2 years older and Matthews has been demonstrably better than Nate at the same age.

Nah, Marner belongs.

His next full 82 game season, he’s hitting 100+ pts.

Imo, Barkov doesn’t belong. Huberdeau>Sasha.

Matthews - Draisaitl - Eichel

Marner - Pettersson - Pastrnak - Point - Barzal

In that order and tier. The orders can be debated but the tiers really can't be.

EDIT: The first line of names wasn't meant to be there. I just put the names there to make sure I didn't forget any of them . I deleted it now.

Ya, but then what happened? (With Nate)

His growth curve at age 23 looks like the US coronavirus charts.

Well I would (frank)ing hope so.

He has been in the league four seasons. He will learn.

I would love to hear your analysis of Crosby's defensive abilities in his fourth season.

Matthews was great defensively this season. Tied for second in league leaders in takeaways. He took massive strides forward.

You obviously didn't watch him play. That, or you're completely ignoring his play.

Agreed.

Right now I think it's clear that MacKinnon is better than Matthews, but going forward, I'd be shocked if Matthews doesn't pass him.

Nah. He's a level below those guys and there's nothing wrong with that. He's still great.

I really like both Barakov and Huberdeau but I'd probably take Barkov over Huberdeau.
