Very close, but Tavares has more goals, more heart and Giroux is an ass-grabber.

Tavares for me, clutch for team Canada as well as has another gear in the playoffs. Looks only Flyers fans voting for giro, not a great sign

When their both healthy and on their game, Giroux. In the playoffs especially.

Tavares leaves something to be desired.

Who tf cares though, it's a team sport! Would be interesting to see Leafs Flyers in a playoff series

Just got to give a tip of the hat to Ek here:

Pitting Toronto fans (and Flyers haterz) against Flyers fans (and Toronto haterz).

Shrike had the perfect answer, yet here we still all are, generating enough hits for Ek to buy Mrs. Ek the new dishwasher at the July 4th sale.

If he can get enough Islanders fans in here, it's gonna be the Thermador Sapphire model DWHD650JPR. Mrs. Ek is going to love it.

ha ha ha ha ha - how many cycles does it have? Only 5, maybe 6?

Pressurized steam cleaning? Does your dishwasher even have pressurized steam?

Mrs. Ek pities you.

Relatively equal production wise. I think I'd take the almost three million less salary and walk away laughing. I understand overpaying ufa's to get their name on the dotted line. Especially if it's a position of need. But as we've seen time and time again, the teams salary structure gets put way out of line. Would not pay a forward ten million per year no matter who he is, but if I were even to approach that number it would be for a stud defenceman who can log thirty minutes a game. As a matter of fact since this is dreamland I'll take two of them. They'll make 5 mil forwards look like snipers.

You wouldn't pay Connor McDavid 10 mil a year?

Eight years.

And I am going to chose to interpret beat differently than you. Speaking of that second Pitt series, Giroux again:

Great clip, PT. Like I said, for competitiveness and heart, hands down I'd take Giroux.

Pretty equal, Giroux has more skill, JT is a better scorer. Drive and determination are the same, Giroux plays with more of an edge but JT is known for putting the work in 24/7.

Being 3 years younger I think JT has the slightest edge, even with the higher salary, 3 years is a pretty big difference. It's really 50/50 though, both are as about as good as they can be while still being just below the level of a generational talent.

The apparent flat salary cap is going to kill teams that signed players to long term deals assuming rising caps.

I wonder if this will lead to some star players being left unprotected for Seattle merely because the $ are not adding up.

I think Tavares is a slightly better player, but if I have to choose between Giroux at 8.2mil per year or Tavares at 11mil......i'd take Giroux

They are going to have to adjust the cap and salary structure for a few years at least. There’s no way they can simply apply the CBA if it looks like a good chunk of next year will be played without fans. I don’t think we can make any long term assumptions.

Or it could lead to middle tier guys being paid like lower tier guys. Teams have different philosophies though. Leafs will pay its Stars and fill the rest of the roster with prospects on entry level contracts. Like Robertson for example. Or Russian free agents like Mikhayev. While the Blues put more value in the middle tier guys like ROR and Schwartz.

There's no one set recipe for cap management. What works one year for a team may not work the next year for a different team. Drafting and developing is the one thing any successful team needs to do. Back in 05/06 when the Cap was 39 mil it was believed stars would make less but they still got paid. The introduction of the Long term back diving, cap circumventing contracts.

It was also said the middle of the road guys wouldn't get paid but they did. GM's never became any smarter on UFA day. Hello Milan Lucic. So what gives? A player is worth what one team is willing to pay him on the open market.

Fans rip the Leafs for paying their stars and it reminds me of way back when the Red Wings locked up their Stars for big money. What are they supposed to do? Lose them for nothing? Let them walk so another team can pay Marner 11 mil a year? You can fairly say the Leafs haven't won anything. Yet. But alot of teams can say that. Did they overpay? Sure they did. But fans always selectively justify their teams contracts. If it's my team then it's a steal. If it's your team then it's a rip off.

The Leafs weren't planning for Covid to happen and Dubas will have to adapt. Same as every other GM. But I won't hold it against Dubas for paying his stars because most teams do. Do they have too much invested at forward? Probably.

But I'd rather build around stars like McDavid and Draisaitl than a bunch of overpaid 3rd liners. I'd rather have Stars than pretend I have Stars. It's like back in 2009 when Marian Hossa was a UFA and Red Wings fans asked me..."Would you rather have Marian Hossa or Samuelsson, Hudler and Kopecky?" I said I'd rather re-sign Hossa because I can't replace him. I can replace those other 3. Holland felt otherwise and it was the beginning of the end for the Red Wings.

In the end you get what you pay for. It's still about bang for the buck and making sure you're not allocating valuable cap space foolishly.

Tough question, if both were 18 and available for me to draft, I would take Tavares. If it is today and I have the chance to have Giroux or Tavares career to date stats and play added to my team, I take giroux. If I only get to add their career from today to retirement to my team I take Tavares.

That’s 2 to 1 for Tavares but the one based off of known stats, imho, goes to Giroux. Plus, Giroux has overperformed his predraft projection and JT has either met or underperformed predraft projections.

What it really comes down to is Flyers fans and Leafs fans who are both among the largest fanbase in the nhl..... so I say the winner goes to clicks foe the website.

That's a pretty weird point to give to Giroux since the only reason he has better stats than Tavares is because he's older and has an extra season.

Giroux!
How the Rangers passed on this guy I have no idea. I remember Pierre flipping out when they did. He named every school he attended since kindergarten and his favorite ice cream

Also, contrary to what someone else said earlier, he's played with better players throughout his career, too.

It’s a tough call, but I’d say Tavares; he’s had more consistent production throughout his career whereas Giroux has had a little more of a rollercoaster.
