Those were some amazing teams in the late 90s for the Mariners too. ARod, Griffey Jr., Martinez, Buhner, Raul Ibanez, David Bell (quality player with the Jays too!), Segui, Moyer, Randy Johnson and his ridiculous slider. Even with all that great talent, Martinez was the hitter everyone on other teams feared and respected the most. He was a hall of famer, and that's from a casual fan of another team!
I find in general the Sens dont do any marketing very well. Unless you believe any publicity is good publicity
They need to up their game 10 fold, let everyone know without a doubt who the stars are, regardless if you like hockey or not. - spazzbot
True, while I’m not for a huge fan for the Vegas and canes gimmicks but if it brings people through the door the sens should probably look into something similar.
I can’t see Melynk doing much to help Allie get into the hall of fame. They detest each other Alfredsson gave Eugene the finger when he left the Sens to join the Red Wings for the last season of his career. He also resigned twice from senior management. We don’t know the details but Allie won’t get much support from the Senators as long as Melynk is the owner. He did retire Alfredsson’s number 11 but his motivation was probably to fill the seats.

Yeh that was bad. . But i dont think gimmicks is the answer just full on,in your face advertising the stars. I was always dissapointed that # 65s face wasn't plastered across the town. All towns within a 100km need to see the Sens brand continously. Even though hockey is pretty engrained they cant rest on that. Demographics are changing and there is many other entertainment outlets vying for peoples attention and dollars.

I think another interesting piece of this equation is that it's never been easier to be a fan of an out-of-town team. Even for the population that is big on hockey, local teams don't have a monopoly anymore.
Yep another crucial factor to take in to account. Its so important to market the stars extensively locally. . Then in turn it will resonate more with the voters of the h.o.f. . You have to market the stars,to build the brand.
I don't like telling people who to cheer for, but if the Sens want the Islanders pick to be higher, who should we be cheering for in the qualifying round? The teams that finished lowerer than them in the standings:
NYR, FLA, CBJ, MTL, TOR
CAL, VAN, NSH, MIN, CHI, EDM, WPG
So who am I cheering for to win?
MTL vs PIT NYR vs CAR FLA vs NYI CBJ vs Tor
CHI vs EDM ARI vs NSH MIN vs VAN WPG vs CAL
Most of these rounds are win win if Islanders lose to FLA. GO Panthers !!

So what is the very best pick possible for the Sens if the Islanders lose the series (and, not win the phase II lottery)?

The highest the Isles pick can go is 13th overall without a lottery win. That requires both Carolina and Pittsburgh to lose the play-in round as well.
It is worth noting that if NYI loses the play-in round, both their first and second round picks (which we own) move up 8 to 10 slots. If NYI lands 15th, we get the 15th and 46th picks in the draft.

For other team picks that we own which will improve due to a play-in round loss:
NYI first & second round pick
Columbus second round pick
Winnipeg third round pick
In terms of my choice of teams to win the Alexis Lafreniere pick:
1. Arizona
2. Minnesota
3. Winnipeg
4. Calgary
5. Columbus
6. Florida

If the Isles and Jackets miss those 2nd round picks are really strong.

if they loose.....
CHI or EDM will take a spot higher than NYI in the draft.
ARI or NSH will take a spot higher than NYI.
MIN or VAN will take a spot higher than NYI.
WPG or CAL will take a spot higher than NYI.
TOR or CBJ will take a spot higher than NYI.
IF MTL, NYR both win, then 13th overall. If NYI get knocked out in the qualifying round, how low can the pick be? 16th overall
Good blog. I saw some social media posts the day of the Hall announcement that they would start pushing posts to get Alfie in. Whether "influencers" follow through or not remains to be seen. I don't think we can rely on the organization to do anything.
Baseball Hall is way better (obviously not perfect). Just reading "last year of eligibility" was refreshing. Would prevent the Lowe's, Wilson's, and Carbenou's from getting in had the NHL institute something similar.

they never will until the selection committee changes, not having that there is what allows them to elect all their buddies that are part of the old boys club, but who are in no way deserving of being in the HHOF.....like Lowe and Carbonneau.
I can't open that on my work computer, but assuming it's the video made when Chabot signed.....if that's the case, the guy who made that video (Craig Megadalia, sorry I know I butchered the spelling) along with a few members of his team, left the organization about a month ago. they were responsible for 100% of the good ideas that came out of the sens marketing team, and they're gone

Yes that's the video - I didn't know they left. Then yes, I agree with you.

It will be interesting to see what happens next year, when the Sedins become eligible for induction. There's already a lot being written in the Vancouver sports press about how they should be a lock for the HOF, even though despite being more one-dimensional offensive players neither can match Alfredsson's career numbers. Now they all have 1000GP+ and 1000Pts+, but in 60 fewer GP, Alfredsson had 50G more than Daniel (the "goal scorer"), and 80Pts (EDIT) more than Henrik (the "playmaker"), which is why Alfredsson posted a career 0.93PPG, while the Sedins are a combined 0.80PPG. And while it's true that none of the players in question won a Stanley Cup, Alfredsson was clearly the best player on the ice for the Senators in the 2007 Finals, and scored 3 of the team's 4 goals in the last 2 games of the series. Meanwhile, the Sedins have the legacy of being held pointless in 5/7 games of their Finals series, and being repeatedly punched in the face.
As already noted in this blog post and comments, the difference may be perception and the "push" of a major Canadian market to get HOF attention, but there's no objective reason whatsoever for the Sedins to be in the HOF if Alfredsson is not.

Sedins will make it in before Alfi simply for the novelty of having twin brothers go in at the same time....neither one of them was as good a player as Alfredsson was

Where are you getting you're numbers from? Everything was correct until you mentioned Alfredsson having more assists than Henrik. H Sedin has 117 more assists than Alfredsson in the NHL. I know international competition comes into play with the HHOF. Even with international play, I cannot imagine that number being a +200 in Alfredsson's favor.
