The way to build a contending team is definitely to give up on our young defensemen who are coming off an injury.

Ya with Toronto being the centre of the hockey universe it will be pretty cool getting home ice advantage too.

Especially when they probably wouldn’t have had it before, but leafs can now win the cup on home ice.

Leafs and Oilers Cup final would really piss off the American fans.. Or they'll just cheer for Matthews..

Hate how every few weeks there's a huge ass download needed for Warzone.

On the brightside, I'm starting to win more.

So I don't know if I've said this before, but golly, with everything going on right now, the NHL should strongly consider cancelling the remainder of the season.

Yeah, I saw they were saying that on Overdrive.

Smartest thing they could do is to get the (frank) outta the States.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Might as well have the host cities in Canada. They haven’t seen the Stanley Cup there in forever. Ehhh

That’d be wildly entertaining. I wouldn’t hate that one bit. I’d be rooting for the Oilers though. Not because of our rivalry, but because I’d be rooting for the best player in the world.

Then what would they do about next season? Are they going to just hold off until there’s a vaccine?

Vegas as a hub city?

Lord Nurgle is pleased.

Nurgle is the Great Lord of Decay and the Master of Plague and Pestilence. All things, no matter how solid and permanent they seem, are liable to eventual corruption and death. Even the process of creation is but the precursor to destruction and decay. The bastion of today is tomorrow's ruin, the maiden of the morning is the crone of the night, and the hope of a moment is but the foundation of regret.

Though Nurgle is the creator of every infection and epidemic to have ever swept the universe, Nurgle is not a morose purveyor of despair and gloom, but a vibrant god of life and laughter. In death, there is life. Upon the decay of the living untold numbers of bacteria, viruses, insects and other carrion-feeders thrive.

Yep I don’t get it either.

It’s not like they’ll cancel this season and start off normal in October. It could be Jan/feb before they begin and that will either be a shortened season or they’ll playing through the summer.

Not to mention all the money they lose it they call the season off.

Nothing goes back to normal just because you cancel the remainder of this season.

I just watched the maritime news on CTV and apparently some nuts have been threatening people with out of province plates.
When you finish your quarantine put a sign stating that on your car. Good luck and welcome to NS.

I did a complete 180 on the whole 'cancel the season' thing.

In a perfect world, we would wait for an effective vaccine (not first to market with mediocre (20-35% protection) ) to be available before opening up sports event.

however, we are obviously not living in a perfect world - and all countries around the world are basically winging it in their approach on their covid19 control.

I came to accept that outside of some Asian countries, and in particular in the 'civilized' West countries - people just care more about themselves than about the group. A very simple example of this is the refusal to use masks while in public.

Professional sports - could be perfectly managed (just throw enough money and human resources at making sure to test-trace-isolate the quarantined group).
It seems essential to give the masses some sort of entertainment (the classic panem et circenses approach) - before they start burning down everything (for whatever reason the mob can think of).

I would very much applaud NHL playoffs starting in August after the 'play-in' round.
I am not sure though whether the same level of excitement can be achieved without crowds though.. (interesting to see what solutions can be found for that - not sure where hologram (-like) technologies stands...?)

I was arguing with a family member last week who did the "poop down the season and start from scratch in October"...I said to him do you think fans will be allowed in the arenas in Otober?
It's a stupid argument. We are in for a long fight. These teams need to make $$$. They are still paying expenses. The 2020/2021 seson is doen in terms of fans attending. Finsh the year.
