I agree that he'd be better if he's heavily sheltered and protected by a guy like Muzzin, but that would make him even less deserving of the contract he's gonna be asking for. He's already not worth his current contract.
Rielly's gonna be needing a raise, too, and he's 100X better than Ristolainen.
I will say though, that if the Leafs do end up trading for him, and protect him well, they can trade him after one season and maybe get a team to overpay for him.
EDIT: Best case scenario would be that if the Leafs do trade for him, get Buffalo to retain salary.
They've only got 10 players signed for next season, so they've got plenty of CAP space.

Rielly is on an excellent contract. We can't compare them. Plus I don't think Ristolainen would play well with Rielly. I think he's better suited to play with Muzzin. I'd rather have Ristolainen instead of Barrie and Ceci.

I don’t think getting a marginal (if lucky ) #4 that is overpaid is improving. We need to spend money on improving the top end, not over pay on the bottom end

One piece of irony is their draft position after the lottery. If you think about it the only team that did better than expected was LA. Both Ottawa and Detroit both took it up the ass.
Russia doing that, as a non combatant in that war, is a very big deal. Trump is the Commander-in-Chief. He is ultimately responsible for the well-being of those troops. He professes to have a positive personal relationship with Putin that could actually be put to good use.
Radcliffe could very well be lying. (His earlier nomination for the job was withdrawn because he was caught inflating his resume.)
