I actually like have multiple lottery spots better than just 1, but yeah, how they did it this year isn't it.
- rmdevil313

The tiered system guaranteeing Pittsburgh/Edmonton the 1st/2nd overall pick each ear while being trash was stupid. I like the idea that more teams are in the lottery but something that is more segmented than this needs to be done because the percentages in which a team rises to 1st overall is just way too much. 18% for the worst team in the league just isn't cutting it when ~30% chance a team just missed the playoffs gets it in aggregate.

Detroit was terrible this season and it's not like they purposefully tanked either. And they are handed a poop pick comparatively to a team that isn't doing poorly at all. Just doesn't make a lot of sense.

On the other hand if it's Arizona or Vancouver we get their unprotected next year

Yeah, I know but having at least 7 and 10 in this years deep draft would be real sweet.

12.5% chance. Ill root for AZ to loose the play-in.

Mother(frank)er!

You know the idea of not letting teams tank into the #1 spot is understandable but letting good teams luck into the top pick is bad too. Letting a playoff team win this is douche.

Penguins or Rangers would be awful

Can Tampa get 1st if they lose?

They always somehow manage to work around the cap, so this year they may need to trade a major piece and if so helps they'd have #1 to walk in

All the play-in losers have an equal chance among themselves? So.. Its 1 out of.. 4 teams? Or 6? I cant remember what thia bracket looks like.
- MartysBetter88

8 teams each have a 12.5% shot. I was just reminded in the Rags board that they now have two lotto tickets, their first and Carolinas. Is there any way Pitt, Carolina, Arizona, NYR can all not win this (frank)ing lotto now?

I also think we're rooting for the Rangers in round 1.

Colorado the year we got Nico and Red Wings this year both stick out as teams that got boned hard.

No, because they aren't in the play in round.

Colorado may have ended up with the best player in that draft, don't really feel all that bad for them.

The Coyotes pick can now be 9th, 10th, or 11th if they lose their play-in round and not win the top pick

Fair, but at the time it seemed they got shafted. Getting Byram when Ottawa didn't lotto protect their pick makes me feel less bad for them too.

So Arizona losing the play in and getting #1 overall so we lose that pick followed by Vancouver losing the play in and keeping their pick this year...

So too early to figure who we are picking in 2021?

If Arizona picks 9 I think that means Chicago wins the lotto? I guess that's one of the more palatable options.

There's a Hughes brother in that draft.

Yes for them to get 9th that means one of Chicago or Montreal won their play-in while the other won the top pick, or both of them win their play-in series

There's definitely risks that the teams improve, but I think both have a good chance to miss the playoffs next year and we could have three lottery tickets next year. It definitely sucks that it looked like we would get 3 decent picks for this draft, but I'm not too worried if that happens.

Edit: I think we definitely want AZ to lose though.

Or if Chicago wins their play in series and any other team wins the lotto I think.

This play in round is going to have a lot of rooting interests to keep track of, lol.

If they both go on a long playoff run it hurts us too. 2020 blows.

Ironically they may not even get the play-in / playoffs in. That’ll be crazy.

Drysdale, Sanderson probably both gone by 7. Still a good chance Holtz is on the board still. I just don't want Raymond or the goalie there, and they are both real possibilities.

We could still get 3 decent picks. A bummer we won't get a top 3 but I expected 7th. 9-11th sounds good too. Who's likely to be there at 7th? I bet raymond falls.. and we take him. I'd be ok with perfetti.
