This draft result just shows what a joke bettman is turning this season into .He and the rest of his incompetent gang should have been fired long ago .. This season should have been canceled when every other HOCKEY league in the world was .
Should have been draft lottery as always follow by July 1 FA and working on trying to start next season as safely as possible .Impeach bettman !!!!!! |

Picking 1st would obviously be great, but for now the Wings falling to 4th will have to suffice. |

Even if Hawks win....I am on record as saying this was a terrible way of deciding the 1st overall. A Franchise player...a generational player quite likely...and he could go to one of the top teams in the league like the Pens, Leafs, Oilers, etc based on a luck based lottery.
In normal years, a team could move up 5 or whatever spots...but NEVER move up from a top dozen team to 1st overall. Just not right. Can't believe this is the best they could come up with. - hawk35
I feel the same way. It feels like a wishy washy thrown together piece meal of having the playoffs and draft selection.
Imo the league should have focused on next year's salary cap , drafts and make shift playoffs just to say they completed a season and held a draft , doesn't solve the main driver revenue going forward and what and when next season will look like in regards to a start date .
The nhl will have to allow at minimum 2 buyouts per team just eliminate any cap problems |

Not a bad suggestion. This may seem controversial but I truly feel the nhl only produces a handful of kids that either exceed or live up to their draft positions or forecasting. Unlike other leagues those players drafted generally start playing within a year or 2 of being drafted .
To elaborate on my point the drop off from pick 1 to pick 6 in skill talent and nhl readiness imo seems to be part of the NHL's talent pool challenge and teams being able to rebuild within a 2 to 3 year window instead of these longer uncertain windows. |

You do realize Bettman represents the owners? Like any other commissioner he doesn't do poop without their approval.

This will be a bittersweet series to watch. I'll root for the Blackhawks to win and if they do thinking damn they had a chance to really get a difference maker in the draft |

The leagues all have to try to satisfy their TV “partners” need for programming by trying to complete the season.
This is especially true for the NHL, with new contract talks coming up next season. |

. Buttmen and his little squad of shysters definitely come up with the plan and present it to the greedy gang of owners . There is no excuse to proceed with this Mickey mouse tournament the 2019-20 season is dead and buried in the ground for 3 plus months let it go . |

If there was a year to pick in the top 15, and even jump to where you get the best winger in the class, you have to have mixed feeling...this kid is gonna be a key piece that will probably plug n plays with the team that wins the secondary lottery.
He’s a dynamic attacker and if a team like Chicago Pittsburgh Winnipeg, Nashville win, he elevates here teams from descending powers to teams with a new young weapon.
I am not gonna day it tips the scales but you start to imagine him with the Edmonton duo, as the Minnesota rebuild centerpiece, Montreal francophone centerpiece, etc. |

You do fine - I may have to read your stuff two or three times, but it sinks in....
I like the wheel concept - eliminates tanking, ping pong balls - let’s teams plan and make moves knowing what their draft position will be going forward....
Especially with a hard cap forcing franchises to bust up good teams - even a Cup-contender can count on a top-5 pick every 6 years to aid in the eventual rebuild. It would put more value (and pressure) on front offices to make good moves knowing future draft positions, not relying on (hoping for) the luck of the ping pong balls. |

Out of the 20 drafts going back to 2000, only Pittsburgh (Fleury and Crosby), Washington (Ovechkin), and Chicago (hang on - I’ll think of the name) have won a Cup with the player they selected overall #1 (St. Louis picked Eric Johnson in 2006).
And of course there’s Edmonton - 4 #1s, 3 in a row - and they’ve only been in one post-season tournament since 2010.
It takes a lot more front office skill than lucking into an overall #1 to build a consistent contender. |

Or, eliminate the draft entirely, and make every player turning pro a free agent. Let the market decide what they’re worth, and let the player decide where he wants to play.
Sort of like an accounting major graduating from college. They get to decide where they’d like to live and work, and negotiate an entry salary jointly with a number of potential employers.
The free market is always the best solution. |

Seabrook scored so many big goals that year. - Elbows15
Seabrook was a stud, many people here said he was maybe a top 30 Dman, I disagree, in my view he was a top 7-8 Dman in the NHL because he brought so much to the game, way underrated by many. His first pass from the defensive zone was elite, his leadership was/is elite, he protected the front of the net as good as anyone when healthy, and he scored huge goals. |

True. It's unfortunate the albatross contract often obscures Seabrook's vital contributions to the 3 Cup winning teams.
