So, if the Blackhawks lose to Edmonton in the qualifying round, they would have:

12.5% chance at #1
12.5% chance at #9
75% chance at #10

To be accurate, the above assumes that Montreal loses to Pittsburgh. If Montreal were to win, the Hawks would be 12.5% #1, 87.5% #9.

Even if Hawks win....I am on record as saying this was a terrible way of deciding the 1st overall. A Franchise player...a generational player quite likely...and he could go to one of the top teams in the league like the Pens, Leafs, Oilers, etc based on a luck based lottery.

In normal years, a team could move up 5 or whatever spots...but NEVER move up from a top dozen team to 1st overall. Just not right. Can't believe this is the best they could come up with.

EXACTLY,!

They allowed a 24th slotted team a chance to pick first overall, thinking it wouldn’t happen....And it did.

I don’t think teams try to lose, but you gotta think Montreal will allow Domi due to his medical issue to not play, eh.

Cant believe this format. Terrible.

Habs beat Pens....Pens could get 1st overall. Bad method of doing draft. No team in the top half should have that opportunity....

Hawks were better off not even part of this play-in thing.

(Unless, of course they lose to Oil....then luck out and win the #1 overall...)

and the [face-off] circle of life is complete when the 19 & 88 draft bonanza repeats itself with Dach & LaFreniere

Not the same as usual Elbows.

#7 overall Pens can move up 24 spots to pick 1st overall.

Tell me one other year a team could move up TWENTY-FOUR spots based on a LOTTERY. No. some very poor planning went into this....very poor indeed.

I still get nervous when Timmo is on the ice. How bad was he? Bad enough that Cumiskey and rundblad were better options.

Incredible they could win the Cup with those bums...Oduya, Keith, Seabrook and Hammer were soldiers. Man, they played some major minutes and key minutes to cover for those bums!!!

I have floated a proposal where you let every team pick first over 32 years and you rotate the selections so each team n
Knows in advance where they draft in the first each year... the rest of the rounds would follow the current order

But they can make sure that their players know they want no one to try am
Nd encourage him to play ... team pressure will be huge on guys who are thinking about sitting out...so if the Hans front office tells their team players to back off, they COULD make it easier to make their team weaker in the hopes of getting number one...conspiracy theories are gonna be everywhere

I think every team should be in the lottery every year. Cup champ has the worst shot at #1, but a shot at it nonetheless.

2007 #1 - Kane

2019 #3 - Dach
2020 #1 - Lafreniere

Seabrook scored so many big goals that year.
