promote from within

seems like a perfect plan from a team that has not won a playoff round in 13 years and has the longest current drought in missing the playoffs

I mean it has to work

You're arguing against dynamics that aren't even at work yet.

They suck for a decade and people (rightfully) complain.

They fired 75% of their hockey department, and people complain.

They keep a few guys that they want to move forward with and promote them and people complain.

Should they have fired them all? Maybe they kept these few guys because they like the job they do. They don't ALL suck.

You do a good job, but your boss hires someone from outside instead of promoting you. That's conducive to the same sh!t atmosphere that's been going on down there.

They aren't recycling from the good old boys club. GOOD FOR THEM.

MOney is no longer an object to the buffalo Sabres.

Id rather the Sabres have #2

If they win 1st they should see if the team at 2 would be willing to move up 1 pick and see what else they'd give up with it.

The Sabres need Byfield more than they do Laf.

- ImThatGuy

You have a point but i would draft Laf at #1 if Buff gets it. Laf can drive a line and it would be easier to get a stop gap 2c until Cozens is ready. Only trade down if trade is one they can't say no to.
Why not have the top 2 line pais
Skinner-Jack

Not arguing with you about big dollars spent equalling squat for Terreee and the Sabres

Because if the Sabres win one more game, none of this happens.
If they are 24 instead of 25 none of this happens
This is not about performance, its about money.

So performance did play a role. If Botterill had waived Bogo two months sooner and called up Pilut, we're probably not having this conversation. But he didnt, so here we are

I get both sides. The optics for Tim and Kerry are absolute zero. And they deserve to be. There's so many examples, simply by the releasing of so many staff, and the fact they hesitated to pay arena staff, and on and on. They just look so (frank)ing cheap and disorganized.

On the other side, specifically with the three E's. There's nothing wrong with running a business using that model. As long as you are providing all of the resources necessary to succeed. Adams suggested that he has all of the resources in order to be successful. Cutting a bunch of people that were past their expiration date, or who have failed, or who do not fit into the new and progressive vision, well, that's how you become more effective.

If three guys can do a better job than six guys, then why the ever living (frank) are you paying six guys?

And lastly, the promoting within.. this is an exceptionally common occurrence. If you are good at your job, you should be promoted. People assuming these individuals didn't deserve a promotion or that the Sabres 'needed' to seek an outside candidate frankly don't know what the (frank) they're talking about.

You don't actually know that. Jason Botterill should have been canned, objectively, last year. None of these firings would have taken place immediately, but with this turnover, I would have really bet these people would eventually be let go.

There's evidence that this was in the making for a while.

Adams promoted our analytics guy to assistant director of scouting (I think)

Very good sign for his first few organizational moves

This is what I was talking about the second Adams was hired. He doesn't need to be a premier player talent evaluator, but he needs to be a premier evaluator of hockey ops personnel. And I think it's a great start.

He's continually discussing 'progressive' ideas that the fans have been yelling at the Sabres to do for years. And now for some reason we're mad about it because Terry's too cheap to hire outside the org without giving a thought to the people who are already here.

I was talking about Crowe, and what he has done with mapping the 17-18 draft with the USNL, said he learned a lot by mapping the progression of those draftees from 2014 until there draft year. And yeah he did some of the pro side because he was challenged to do that.

The guy sounds like another Adams. Guy who worked his way up and through different titles he had no previous experience performing, yet did everything well.

I see nothing wrong with hiring intelligent and adaptable people. Cause we've done so (frank)ing well with whatever the (frank) we've been doing for the past 10 years.

Now you've got your top analytics guy being the assistant director of scouting, directly tying analytics to the kids you're about to add to the org. Holy (frank), what a concept.

The Pegulas are losing money with there hockey team, there changing course, businesses do that. I doubt there hurting for money that bad, they just dished out over a hundred million in football contracts. If you ran a business losing money you would do the same thing, maybe not to this extent. It sucks because we want good sports teams, but why get so butt hurt over what they did, there's other things in life to worry more about.
