gimme Dillon. He'll be 30 in November. Give him 3 years, 4 if you HAVE to. What else we gona do? Another year of Mueller? of Mermis? yeesh. You think Bahl is ready? Don't rush the soon to be 20yr old tower of strength. Carrick will be off the books next year and Bahl can take his spot, even if he's a left shot. He doesn't need his stick on the boards when he can be focused at checking mini-mites into oblivion. Or maybe we just wait for Butcher's deal to be done in 2022. Smith, Dillion, Bahl would make for a very nice left side. Drysdale is a right shot...... wouldn't that be nice.

Dillon-Severson
Butcher-Subban
Smith-Carrick

In 2022 and beyond.. a beautiful mix of shutdown and puck-mover on each pair. IF these kids pan out, this could actually be a GOOD defense at the NHL level, and perhaps a GOOD offense as well. Wouldn't that be something. Send these pairs to the organization. The Cup is ours. Look how good and balanced that defense looks? Amazing. 2022-23 is our year!! We get a mid-1st pick in 2021, maybe make the playoffs in 21/22? Maybe add a UFA in 22? and be good to go for a run in 23!

Boqvist-Hischier-Palmieri
Foote-Hughes-Gusev
Bratt-Zacha-Mercer
Kuokkanen-McLeod-Merkley

Dillon-Drysdale
Bahl-Severson
Smith-Okhotyuk

.. look at that defense. My brain projects Smith to be like Mike Green. Slot him right next to defensive dman Okhotyuk.

the more I think about it, the more I know either Ottawa or LA will pick Drysdale before us. Perhaps he could be the next Nieds? He can skate like the wind. Apparently he doesn't have that great of a shot though. IF he was available, I still don't have a strong feeling either way. Do we want a Niedermayer-lite, or do we want a Marian Hossa, which is what I envision Holtz being. Or do we just want Perfetti or Rossi.. or Raymond..

One more week till the lotto.

I’m starting to wonder if the draft matters because this virus is ruining hockey...

...and killing lots of people. Sucks.

The death more.

But still totally (frank)ing up the game...

MLB just closed all spring training camps for at least a week as they go through a thorough cleansing. This trying to rush sports back seems sillier and more reckless each day.

I know it says UFA- I think devils should trade for Nikita Zadorov- size skating ability, top 4 d man- is inconsistent but very good in playoffs, still very young. Avs have a glut of good young defensemen and Zadorov may be man out

It's sad that Mermis gets thrown to the wolves in every scenario. He was 100% more effective than PK in every zone, but simply because pk makes 9M AAV, and has a 7 year old Norris trophy, that guarantees him 24+ minutes a night regardless of his play. Nothing the guy has accomplished in a devs jersey is indicative of his current role. Severson is our only D that I can confidently say is a legitimate top 4 D. Butch is suspect, mermis and carrick appear to be solid bottom pairing guys. I too have high hopes for Smith, but expect him to get sewered with a limited role, and weak D on the other side to start of the season. Thats why I want Sbisa so bad. He has size, speed, and is primarily a shutdown LD that would work great with Smith, as it did with Pionk this season. I think it is a perfect match and I doubt the guy signs more than a 2 year deal with 2M AAV

While we certainly need defensive talent we also will be sporting a new defensive system under Lavy (or whoever becomes the new head coach). So hopefully Subban bounces back a bit.

Mermis May stick around as a depth/two way signing but I wouldn’t count on him for much. Also, Okhotyuk isn’t projected to be an NHLer for a couple years and is a long shot project.

my pairs with Okhotyuk was for the 22-23 season, and he'd be bottom pair with Smith who would already have 2 NHL season under his belt. I was just throwing whatever RHD prospect I could find that we had lol.

Hard to take anybody seriously when Sbisa is the guy you cite as your go to when he is actually pure garbage. Career CF% 45.6 and not a single season at 50% or above. It's amazing that he's still in the league at all.

Watch him. The guy is a shut down man. He logs most his minutes on the PK, and against the best opposition. He was a big reason Pionk had a breakout season. There is not a D on this roster who can skate/hit/fight as good as this guy, and for a bargain price I think he would be a great bottom pairing player on this team. Corsi isn't always fair for shutdown I see the guy as being a great partner for an offensive and undersized guy like Smith. Our LD currently go Butcher/Mueller/Cleason....... That is not acceptable. He is like Mueller, but fights and skates much better. He's not logging 20+ minutes a night, but we need LD desperately.

Would you really not want to add a guy like him to this current roster? If he is as bad as you say he is, I guess nobody will sign him eh?

No, I wouldn't want a terrible player on the team because our team is already filled with terrible players.

Poor logic. If he is better than PK, Butch, Carrick, Mueller.....Why not add him? I mean I could say lets sign buff and Piett to a 2 year deal, but that wont happen realistically. What is the solution?

He isn't better than any of them though. Are you sure Sbisa is the guy who think he is?

The amount of games played tells me he's either crazy injury-prone, or just stinks. Pionk likely excelled in spite of Sbisa. I'd take him over Mueller but .. i'm so tired of new #6-8dmen being brought in. Dillon would be very nice. He is why you don't add Sbisa, and the solution I've come up with so far, is..

Dillon-Severson
Butcher-Subban
Smith-Carrick

which isn't great, but I'm not sure Sbisa is better than PK, Butch, Carrick, which doesn't say much about Sbisa, but more how bleh those 3 all are. They're all bottom-pair guys on their good days.

Byfuglien?...geez pair him with Subban and we have our first ever “Red Light Line” on Defense!!
- RussH1964

I take issue with this. Byfuglien was stronger defensively than he was offensively for the last couple of seasons, and there’s a strong argument to be made for Enstrom-Byfuglien being the best shutdown pairing in the NHL during 17-18

You’ve got the right guy. Pionk didn’t play with Sbisa all that much, and it was a horror show when he did

It’s possible. I’m just saying it’s doubtful he gets to the NHL.

Wonder what we are going to do with Mueller. He’s an RFA and we spent assets to get him. He’s not getting better but would relatively cheap.

Sunk cost fallacy. Mueller is terrible so dumping him would be addition by subtraction. Sucks we spend stuff to get him, but nothing you can do about that now.

Yup.

I think Shero would have been more inclined then Fritzy to give him another shot; But with Vats and Greene gone Mirco might be moving up in the depths chart.

That really was the Cup. Were the Rangers better than Jersey in 94... yes. I think they were by a hair. Could we have beat Vancouver? yup.
Imagine winning 94, 94, 00, 01, and 03. Talk about Dynasty. 5 Cups nine seasons.. 5 Finals is epic as it is. We were so close in 94 and 01. But 03 could've easily gone the other way in that Ottawa game 7. You win some, you lose some.

I hated Messier (as a player, I think he’s actually a good guy) and the whole guarantee story is kind of bullpoop, but his play in game 6 was the difference. Rangers had a relatively easy road to the cup besides us. Vancouver was a very good team but I always thought not well built. Our run in ‘95 was actually against tougher teams then who the Rangers played.

The Rangers were really a stacked team but we came close. It was an epic series. I wish it was like that now but we’ve stunk for a long time.
