It does seem kind of crazy from a perpetrator side. I mean what kind of people would DO this poop let alone allow themselves to be victims of it?

That is why I say if even HALF is true its insane.

At that age, acceptance from your peer group outweighs most practical considerations.

The real failing is with the adults... not only did they let the cycle perpetuate, but some actually directly participated? Now that's the real WTF for me.

yeah....

I was a frat boy and we did our share of hazing, getting hazed.....

But this is something else....wayyy different

A culture of silence, fear, and intimidation, without repercussions to perpetrators will lead to stuff like this. The more protected the actors feel, the more the events get escalated.

I can think of other organizations that operate in a similarly disgusting way.

Yeah this sounds like a lot of falsehoods. The part with the coach walking in, laughing then leaving is enough to question the validity to this.

Furthermore, hockey players would be the last athletes on Earth who would allow that stuff happen to them. People would be getting f'd up.

Not sure why you’d think that? Theo Fleury and others were sexually abused by their Juniors coach In the 80s. It’s not about being tough or strong. People, like coaches, can use their positions of authority to take advantage of people. Big strong former NFL player, Terry Crews, was sexually abused as an adult.

NAK is a damn good story. Even though he was a 2nd round pick, he'd really gotten passed by on the depth chart. Glad to see him making the most of his first (real) opportunity.

There's hazing. Then there's this. I can't fathom someone forcing me to eat sh!t. Or shoving a stick up my as$. I don't care whether you're 6'5 or 5'6, I can't imagine how it went this far.

Truth always lies somewhere in the middle.

Carcillo's story is being corroborated:

And his lawsuit is class action, not personal, so I suspect you'll start seeing more and more ex-CHL players sign on.

Unfortunately, just because you can’t imagine it, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. People do disgusting and stupid things all the time.

Frat boy mentality. It is real.
- Scoob

Mhm. My buddy rushed and they sat all of the 2nd round pledges in a room, spiked their beer with acid without telling them, and when they could tell it was kicking in, turned off all the lights and proceeded to whack em with those yellow whiffle ball bats and smacked them around pretty good. Terrified them. He had never taken a drug before. Had no idea what LSD was like. And then the mental torture was off the charts.

If you’ve never experienced hallucinogens, all of a sudden it gets pitch black, and someone starts attacking you with something your mind is telling you that’s dangerous, that’s just plain cruel.

The frat got in serious trouble the next year, but I don’t know for what. Needless to say, he never returned again.

ZBT at Tulane. I don’t care if I out them. They were booted at least once.

At first glance, it’s going to be very rich hearing about hazing from Carcillo, but it doesn’t take a very deep gander into abusive people’s pasts to see that they themselves were almost always targets themselves.

Bullies often had a bully. Usually dad or an older brother. Some sort of powerful figure that did it to them first. Kid touchers are the same way. You can all but guarantee that a pedophile was sexually assaulted in their youth. It goes on from generation to generation.

So no, it doesn’t really surprise me that a guy like Carcillo with his rep was at one point on the receiving end. He’s at an age now of maturity (hopefully) and his brain hasn’t been all muddied with the lifestyle he one had. He’s probably dealing with reality and it hit him hard with a bad case of depression. Now in his years of retirement he cannot escape from it like he could in his 20s.

I bet he tries to close his eyes to sleep at night, and the mental circus just plays loudly over and over again in his head. A deafening calliope of “remember when this guy did this to you? Remember when you flew off the handle and punished a rookie to the point of tears? He never looked at you the same again.”

Just over and over and over. Non stop.

Bill, with only about a week to go before Kalynuk becomes a UFA, I’m thinking the chances are pretty slim that the Flyers sign him. Do you agree?
- Djapana

Not expecting him to sign, although I don't know for sure.

That would be a bummer. From his coach it seemed like the Flyers handled him well but you never can tell. It may just be an issue of how deep the organization is right now. Not that he is a sure thing but it sucks to lose talent for nothing when you have invested time in his development
