The Pegulas are typical of many ultra-rich owners in every major sport. Very few of them have a genuine passion for any of the businesses they are involved in, sports or otherwise. Their only passion is collecting more zeros on the right-side of their account balances. poop, take one look at them and you know what they are about. Withered old geezer with money falling out of every orifice and the plastic-surgery addict trophy wife who carries more plastic on her face than in her purse.

Botts, the secret mastermind behind all the real Pens dealings for many years (as reported by no one), who was supposed to be the next coming of analytical general manager jesus? Him and John Chayka were supposed to take the hockey world by storm.

Apparently we just finished the decade #1 in regular season wins and win%. Crazy we did that and didn’t win the President’s trophy once and only won our division like twice.

18 in 3 years. Didn’t get to draft this year, obviously. 17-19 with 6 picks each. We’ll see how it plays out with them.
- SDSabre

Yeah, he was "on pace" to make 6 picks again this year. He's a clown. Thanks for Frolik and the cap overage, Jason

What a crazy long and thorough blog regarding a team, that's not the Penguins, and its owners...

1) Buffalo spends to the cap each year.

2) Owners force trades all the time, its a business and there's a bottom line. Players are traded for financial reasons in every league in every year.

3) It's the GM's fault if he trades away a player for nothing.

4) GM's make the picks in the draft

Is it that hard to admit Botts is a great Assistant GM but a terrible GM?

There is absolutely no guarantee a better trade comes on the table given that asset self-tanked his value by demanding a trade. At that point your stuck with a bad trade and 7 mil paid.

I didn’t know about the Domi thing. There’s a point to be had there, but then the AZ ownership is equally guilty for not wanting to pay the bonus.

- Victoro311

As Pens fans, we have some recent experience of this with Kessel. Granted, there was a no-trade clause at play, but still, a player that needed to be moved and everyone knew it.

Terry had Sabres season tickets for years before he could even sniff buying that team.

He WAS passionate. Don't know wtf happened.

Bottom line, when he said at his introductory presser that the Sabres reason for existence is to win the Stanley Cup, he (frank)ing lied to every Sabres fan who had tears in their eyes that day thinking that their savior had come to save the franchise from both mediocrity and relocation.

That's the thing. We don't know what happened to him.

This is a guy who used to drive out to a bridge on the water and park because he could pick up crackly sabres broadcasts on WGR radio from buffalo. This is the guy who cried when talking about the french connection. This is the guy who said "there is no cap on front office people, so we are going to spend as much as we can there."

He hired his hero Pat LaFontaine (and that went awful). He hired another hero in Housley (and that went almost as bad). If anything, he was a misguided super fan.

And now he has become the penny pinching Ebenezer owner of a small market team. I don't get it.

His passion for that area and the sports of that area is very evident.

The passion (much like Pittsburgh) that sports fans in the Buffalo area have borders on the insane.

Terry and Kim are killing that.

Don't care much about the Buffalo situation. Just glad Botts will no longer be getting the credit for JR's success.

Anybody who trades for Conner Sheary is an idiot.

Oh shyt.... Forgot JR traded for that stiff at the TDL.

That is mostly true but who else can afford to own a pro sports franchise? With the amount of money that pro athletes make (in all sports) combined with the general cost of owning a franchise these are the only kinds of people who can own pro sports teams.

In all sincerity, I'd take Botts back in a heartbeat. I think it's fair to say he was an asset for the Penguins. Plus, we just lost Billy G.
