I look at one of the Hunter's having the Shanahan role, CEO of hockey ops, with the ability to hire and fire whoever he wants, reporting to Danny Wirtz.
- LAHawk

From what I understand about the Hunters ,I live close by their small town here .And pick up some of the local gossip and that is all it is .Dale is very happy working with the Knights and can't stand all the BS ya get with the kids once they reach the NHL . Mark on the other hand was disappointed not to get the Leafs job and would like a GM positions . Not sure he would travel far for one, for family reason Chicago may or may not be in his radius .Mark to me is the best GM prospect out there right now and would build a hard nosed playoff ready team .

Bring back Torch!

In all seriousness, what are your thoughts on Kirk Muller?

- Chunk

I like Kirk Muller.

Not sure if he had head coaching aspirations again or leaving MTL but he could he a good option.

He's terrible.

He's an absolutely atrocious head coach. Stay away.

The guy made Chad LaRose quit playing hockey he was so disgusted with his experience under Muller.

Go Scott1977 for inspiring a new blog!!! Attaboy!

TC - are you TRYING to make people blow a gasket? Let me get this straight, you are proposing the possibility of Stan not only staying but being promoted, bringing in a rookie GM (Sullivan) and possibly keeping Colliton on hand? People here lose their crap with Colliton alone. Just wait until the GM trades Strome for a perceived lower value.

Just kidding. I know this is all just theoretical, but that scenario stuck out as particularly ripe.

Cheers and thanks for the new blog.

- Chunk

Haha. I hear you.

I iust think it could be a real possibility to have Stan promoted into that role.

And if he is, I can't see him taking too much of a back seat therefore hiring a wily vet GM would be out of the picture.

I didn't mention Colliton in that scenario as I don't think he would last if a new GM - inexperienced or not - was to come in (even if Bowman is still there).

Really? I wasn't aware of that.

Maybe he wouldn't be a good choice. Ha

Yeah, like unless he's suddenly drastically improved, he was a nightmare of a coach.

Everything was dump and chase, which is fine, but when things didn't work he just kept repeating the same talking points about needing "More effort" and "putting pucks in areas where you can retrieve them."

It was an absolute mess.

Great blog, Tyler, and a timely one given the recent shake up in Buffalo firing Jason Botterill, more than half of the scouting department, and all AHL coaches and affirmation of Kim Pegula as President and hiring of Kevyn Adams as new GM.

The Sabres shake up does help to resurrect the focus of your blog. A common thread between the Hawks and Sabres is that management from each team had recently expressed votes of confidence in the people that they later parted ways with, i.e. McDonough and Botterill.

Random factoid: Adams' last season in the NHL was as a Blackhawk when they also had another Adams (Craig).

yeah he didn't even bother going to his exit interview at the end of 2013.

After Muller was fired he came back and asked for a shot to make the team again. They let him try out and he went to captain the AHL squad for a year. He had talked about how he had fallen out of love with the game, how he didn't enjoy hockey anymore after the two years under Kirk.

I like the idea of splitting the President's role into two as suggested: Business Ops and Hockey Ops.

Generally, I would prefer candidates for Business Ops President to be anyone with a strong track record in the business of whatever they became successful in. Doesn't need to be hockey but would be a plus.

Danny Wirtz would definitely be a candidate to consider but would love to see other candidates so the best choice is made, not what could be perceived as the most convenient choice (i.e. nepotism).

However, for Hockey Ops President candidates, I would prefer that they have pro hockey experience, preferably in the NHL, whether as a former player, coach, GM, scout, or any other role.

Norm Maciver would be someone I would nominate. He's often referred to as a sharp hockey mind and the smartest person in the room. But, the smartest person can often be the one who gets silenced if there are egos at the table, too. This could be Maciver's chance with a changing of the guard.

Or if Stan Bowman gets promoted to Hockey Ops President, then consider Maciver as next GM.

I expect the logo will be gone for sure. A logo of a “Hawk” with the same colour scheme has been bandied about, I expect something like that. Or use the name and change the logo to the Blackhawk helicopter or the military group the 86th infantry division. Or perhaps engage the native community to see if they are in agreement to continue the Hawks using the Iconic logo with the argument being the logo is used respectively and honourably even if it depicts natives as mascots?

LaRose was one of my favorite players who played on another team. Loved his energy, fearlessness, and all around skill. He gave 110%. Always wanted him in a Blackhawks sweater.

Ya no kidding I had no idea who I was talking to at 1st and the playoffs were on at the time .I had just watched LaRose in the playoffs and thought how well he had played .We were just shooting the breeze and I asked him who he wanted to win the Cup ,that's when he said he was a professional hockey player .I was like sure ok then he said his name ,and I thought who would come up with the name Chad Larose .He said he was on his way to Toronto to talk to his agent about a new contract .Said when he played Jr. he had stayed at this hotel but was never able to use the pool told the wife they should get over the bridge and stop here . Think he said he was from the Detroit area .Real nice kid .Asked him about sighing in Chicago think he said he had some family in the Chicago area . It was a funny meeting we sat in the Hot tub ,my brother in Law always called him my hot tub buddy when we seen him playing ..

Born in 1961. Pretty sure I understand that unless the Blackhawks continue to get the full and unanimous support of all the local tribes, they will be wearing a black hawk crest on their sweaters instead of the Indianhead.

Do you think people weren't capable of thinking critically 3 years ago lol? Try to add something besides cherry picking times to add your negative comments. Here's another one. https://www.google.com/am...c.com/amp/article/396356/

Yes you might be right but that is the problem IMO. The whole notion now, or movement, that if everyone doesn't agree on some issue, then it must be canceled.

As mentioned things (Times) they are a changin. I’d hate to see the logo be changed, I like the logo, I feel it is honourable and classy, but ... I say that from my perspective and not from a Native one.

My daughter teaches at a native community, Kashechewan, on the western bank of James Bay. My daughter is extremely, almost militantly, Politically left of Center and she hated the Blackhawk logo. After a few months in the community she noticed Every sports team in the community used the Hawk logo on different coloured jerseys. The natives told her they found the logo was in good taste and they were proud of it. My daughter has now changed her view about the logo.

With all the changes in society it won’t surprise me if the logo is dropped.

I think the group that will ultimately make the decision to keep or drop the Blackhawks logo will reside with the native communities, hopefully they continue to allow Chicago to keep it. That said I think the Redskins and Cleveland logos should be changed. I think neither is respectful and I’d be shocked if native communities agree to Washington and Cleveland keeping them.

Surely a factor. The question is, "is nepotism always a bad thing"? It is theoretically a less risky hire being that you are intimately familiar with their background and history. Not to mention (in this case as basically a family owned business) he would have a high vested interest in the success of the company.

I don't know jack about Danny Wirtz, but he still has the interim tag on him and it's not like the Hawks all of a sudden have the dumbest owner in the league.
