His lack of speed or too much speed? He seems like he skates well. What am I missing?

Is he on the team this year though?
I’d say it’s 50/50

And if he does make the roster,
is he on PP1?

- jdfitz77

No way to tell, but based on what I've seen I expect him to make the team. If he does, then yes, I expect him to quickly force his way onto PP1. He's a gamer.

4th overall pick who lit it up at the World Juniors*

*it would have been obvious to any that watched that Aho was driving the majority of the play on that line, but Pulju put up the most points so he got the headlines.

quite often, yep.

Vastly overrated tournament when it comes to trying to figure out what a player will become.

JP was a top 5 prospect pre tourney. In fact him falling to 4 was a surprise.

Yes and no. He didn't progress the way he probably should have to justify him being ranked that high to begin with, and only this season is about where he should have been 3 years ago.

Yep. So dropping a single spot isn't necessarily a huge fall or anything.

He never should have been rated that high though.

Well it’s not really a yes and no.

He was ranked that high before the tournament, actually higher than 4, so he technically fell from where he was ranked after the WJ.

No one thought PLD would be picked ahead of him

Yeah that's not true him and Laine destroyed teams in the WJ but even before that it was him and Laine going back and forth for 2nd

Again, he was good in the WJC but he was also 6th on his Liiga team in scoring, a team that was being lead in scoring by a guy only 10 months older than JP.

If you go back and look at Puljujarvi's history you'll see a player who was pushed one age level higher than he should have been every year all the way up to the NHL.

A legitimately neat comparison is Sebastian Aho, who played on the same team as Puljujarvi at 15,16, 17, 18... What you'll see is Aho putting up consistently higher numbers than Pulju, but also playing at the correct age level.

The guy that put up better number all the way along went in the 2nd round. The guy who was bigger went top 5.

i'm not saying right or wrong I'm just saying they had an actual comparison ON THE SAME TEAM for 4 straight years of both guys development and somehow didn't see that there was something missing with Puljujarvi.

I give a slight edge to Dubois. Strong 200 foot Center. Isn’t flashy, won’t grab the headlines, but was a #1 Center and very effective.

He is also whom Cozens reminds me of although I don’t know if Dylan will be as good defensively.

I found it odd that they didn't even interview JP, seems like they knew something others didn't.

I think he is a level above Rick Nash but with the Pegula's you can never tell but if people here had to put money on a bet instead of just tossing out b*tches I'm sure there would then be many more against a trade.

Man, I don't know about that. Eichel is a more complete player, but Rick Nash was as good as anyone at scoring goals. Injuries killed Nash. As a 19 year old he scored 41 goals on a pre-lost season Blue Jackets team. For as much as people female dog about the Sabres, the Jackets were so, so much worse. They had 62 points that year. 41 goals on a team that scored the 2nd fewest in the league as a 19 year old. He scored 23.1% of the Blue Jackets' goals that year. And on top of all that he only played 17:38 a night. Let's put it this way, the best goal scorer of this generation, ever? as a 20 year old in the high-flying first season back from the lockout scored 21.9% of the Caps goals. Have I mentioned Nash was 19?

Nash is for sure one of my all time favorites to watch. Marian Gaborik in his prime is another. Superstars who don’t really get the credit they deserve as wingers

All the talk was of "the big Finns" after Matthews like it was all about "the Sams" pretty much the whole year before the draft. Everyone was shocked when Dubois was picked.

http://www.mynhldraft.com...draft/nhl-draft-rankings/

Much like 2014 where no one had Draisaitl over Reinhart no one had Dubois ahead of Puljujarvi.
