Raw deal was just as bad. Botts is just the most recent
- SDSabre

At least Botts brought us Dahlin, Cozens, Joker, another shot at the lotto in a elite top 10.

I hate the Skinner contract but he is a proven goal scorer. Only way it works out though is if we get elite play from our younger players on ELC’s (Skinner contract was all Pegulas anyways as he wanted to go short term)

They've known him for a long time. They know how he operates, so my guess is that they will let him as long as he stays within the bounds of the conversation that got him hired in the first place.
- TheSabresTaco

The pegulas know Adam's pretty well.

1st they get burned by tim Murray who clearly wasnt the type of " employee " they like. Slapping pee pees , crying when we lost the McDavid lottery, unicorns ect.

So then they hire a nice up and coming gm in jbotts. He was next in line (league wide) for the gm position.

Now, they hire someone else who's nice. It just makes for a better conversation, when the person is respectful.

I really like the hire.

From what I understand, the trimming of the payroll isnt going to effect the players salary and spending to the cap. I could be wrong.

Streamlining more of the management, basically not paying anyone to manage an ahl team , because there wont be an ahl season for at least 16 months.

Less of a chain of command. Less $ spent on tmgm, phil, botts, greeely, taylor ect. In the future.

When we're close, $ will be spent to win.

i could have made the Dahlin pick not sure that is really botts unless you count him not being able to collect a decent enough team to get out of having hte best lottery odds as skill. Cozens too just was the more logical pick and still hasn't proven anythign.. I will give you joker and skinner.. but raw deal also got kane and ROR... i say they are equal

Hope this is all true. My fear is $$ is becoming a primary concern of ownership

Based on what was said about getting leaner...I don't know how you can't believe that T-Pegs wanted him gone before the bonus was paid out

The return was atrocious. He got hosed.

The funny part about the “leaner” comment from terry.

With all those scouts / directors ...... our drafting still sucked.

I mean look at our drafting in general outside of Eichel dahlin and Sam. It’s pretty much trash.

My only issue is ..... leaner means they aren’t hiring anyone. The scouting roster is set pretty much

Literally no twitter or media rumors of adding people

Tim Murray definitely wasn’t given enough time. Look at the players he drafted / traded for. (Sober Lehner is actually good)

As for botts. I don’t think he wanted to fire his staff. Which is what the pegulas sort of mentioned

I think there will be scouts added once there are players to be scouted but there won't be 15 amateur scouts.

It makes sense that they would fire scouts who didn’t produce results. I have 0 issues with it.

But why is Devine still here?

None of this (besides firing Botterill) has the message that it was about performance

But they both got the same amount of time... We won’t know how Botts drafted for 3ish years. We know that Murray’s drafts suck and that’s the reason we have no pipeline

Botts drafts, specifically his first one, look actually decent.

I don’t like the Ryan Johnson pick, but we have 0 clue how he will turn out.

My friend mentioned some time back that everyone at pse was looking over their shoulder concerned about their job security. Worried about calling in sick. (One employee) anyways. This has been coming for a while.

We all realize they are billionaires, but losing money sucks. Its really is a business. I would imagine the margins were expected to be much higher on their downtown restaurants as well. Bad play compounded for them. And they are part of the reason, for sure.

The Sabres have turned into a charity for the pegula's.

The one guarantee in Buffalo sports has been. we support our teams heavily at the gate/season tickets/ merchandise

A lot of that currently is gone. Kinda uncertainty in both the Bill's and Sabres.

The only "not spend with reckless abandon" move was the ror trade. They could have clearly "bought" more in return. I still think that was part spite, you lost your love for the game after we hired your brother and garauanteed your contract. 🤔

And I’ve argued for him enough. Think he’ll be a solid pro and if we weren’t so forward starved, don’t think anyone would take issue with him. But we’ll see how he plays out

Yeah Kris Baker likes him a lot. Other people think his ceiling is really low.

I still think Mitts is a top 9’er in the NHL.

id take them over DET, PHX, NJD, OTT, SJ... and some others. they have better foundation then some of these other teams.

I didn't like him but the only reason I can see as to why they kept him is he has the experience with the draft and how it works so maybe they kept him to be Adams' right hand man with details and such.

Lol OTT for what they were this year with all the kids. Did pretty well

Add in 2 top 5 picks in the draft.

They should be good to go

I’d say when your best free agent acquisition is Benoit Pouliot you’re not aspiring to win that year are you ? That was a stealth tank if I’ve ever seen one.

Sure we still needed to win the lottery and we had some good fortunes but I give Botts credit for Dahlin.

He could have easily have traded the first rounder that year to “win now”.

Instead of Dahlin and Cozens we may have ended up with two first round playoff exits but 95% of you probably would have preferred that anyways I guess.

This is f*cked up. There have been some cruel people who graduated into the NHL and some who suffered a lot, and then went on to be those cruel bastards. Coaches, managers, administration who no doubt knew about it.
