Coaching philosophies?

Or roster?

That is a big difference

I don't know how involved Taylor was with building the roster, so again it confuses me why he was canned, and they won't give a real answer

- Stripes77

Philosophies. Him and Jason were in sync. Win win win was the message. And both were fired for it, at the very least.

When People call Taylor asking what he thinks of the Pegulas, i dont think he is going to be very glowing...

- ImThatGuy

He shouldn't. The Pegulas must be a nightmare to work for. I pray they don't make on ice decisions.

This is assuming it was Adams call. Which is a giant assumption
- sbroads24

Here is my concern. This is probably the most crucial season in teh history of teh team.

You are now led by a coach with a career losing record
a GM with 0 front office experience
and to boot he has little to no help Pro or Amateur

Adams has to
Fill an entire roster that currently has only what 9 skaters and a goalie signed.
Fill an entire front office staff
Refill the scouting department
Fill an entire AHL staff

This is set up to be an unmitigated disaster.

I fully expect to see every young player up in buffalo next year, because they are cheap, not because they are ready.

Mitts
Cozens
Thompson
Asplud

All here and will cost south of 5 mil for all of them.

Piecing evidence together, it was the four of them (they "interviewed" Adams prior to calling Jason) that decided that player development for the prospects was more significant than loading a roster with vets. I want to see Rochester win. But how does loading a team with veterans help the Buffalo Sabres? You can still install veteran leadership which is extremely important. But when you have defensive prospects PLAYING (frank)ING FORWARD so you can have vets on the back end, how is that development? How does that help your prospects develop into their NHL roles?
- TheSabresTaco

I think the reasons they gave are 100 baseless and they just didnt want to pay him

Find me where I complained that a coach couldn't get out of the first round...

How about making the damn playoffs first

Taylor had 2 shots at the playoffs and would have had a 3rd this season

But again keep posting about what I would or wouldn't complain about because you have any idea what I am thinking...

You can't articulate a thought on your own, do not attempt to even try to tell me what I would think

- Stripes77

You just have a problem with a minority woman in charge.

I'm sorry, I had to. I'll stop.

If Adams is as intelligent as Beane, and I firmly believe he is, he will hire some great minds.

You gotta pay somebody. I don't believe you fire a guy you want to keep. It's beyond unethical. Spare the jokes, even though the Pegulas deserve it. Again, I'd bet the taco they don't bring back a single guy.

That'd be nice

Terry Pegula said "leaner" about 10 times in that press conference
- Stripes77

Leaner doesn’t mean the salary for the players though. They are gonna run the org leaner. What percentage of costs for a hockey org is the players salary on average? Just curious if anyone knows. I’ll do some research, but if anyone knows I’ll save myself the time.

Gonna be kinda hard with the salary they already have on the roster to essentially NOT spend to the cap, at least for a couple years. And until there’s evidence of this, I’ll say that i won’t guarantee anything.

9 years they have owned the team

Not counting when they bought the team halfway through the one season they finished with a winning record 1 time

Made the playoffs 0 times

They have no clue how to run a hockey team

It's not that they changed for the 100th time, it's they're the ones making these decisions and being too involved.

I loathe Mike Harrington but he was absolutely correct the Pegulas are the problem

Serious question...

What kids???

A coaches job is to win games or they won't have a job long

Of the kids that were with Taylor, a majority of them improved. Most of them based on where they were drafted were long shots to make it to the NHL.

Sean Malone turned into a decent AHL player under Taylor

Mitts found his game in Rochester
Thompson was a ppg player in Rochester

Ullmark turned into a NHL regular
Bryson looks like he is ready to take the next steps
Oloffson learned the North American game under Taylor

When an organization wants a winning culture and for that to start in the AHL and when the GM signs these veteran AHL guys what the hell is Taylor supposed to do?

He plays the roster he was given and was good at winning (at least in the regular season)

All while having the few younger players improving their game.

- Stripes77

This is funny, before Taylor was fired Mitts was a candidate to be out the doors and did he really find his entire game, the stats don't point to it. Thompson was hurt all last year and when he went there right away and lit it up through no help of Taylor, he already was better than AHL. Sean Malone, talk to me when he is an NHL player, that is what the AHL is for. We'll see about Bryson, and VO came here with his shot and scored 30 his first year in Rochester because he was already a 4 year pretty good developed pro. Ullmark, if Taylor has a lot of input on goalie development then they shouldn't have had a goalie coach I guess.

Him leaving when the AHL may not have a season does not seem the big issue some are making it out to be. He will be one name in the history of Rochester coaches who was a HOF player in the AHL. is that the real reason some have a woody for him leaving? His playing days in the AHL?

Sorry to see Taylor go, he played the hand that was given to him. Are drafts have sucked for years. How is he supposed to get prospects ready to go to the next level when there isn't many to work with. Are system was pretty void and that's why so many vets were brought in, hard to coach prospects when there isn't any.

well lets see Mitts had the same amount of points in the AHL (25) in 36 games as he did in the NHL the entire year prior in 77 games

It took Mitts a few games to get going after he got sent down

1 point in 5 or 6 games after he got sent down, then finished strong

Sean Malone probably wouldn't have been drafted if he didn't grow up in Buffalo.

A 6th round pick that despite injuries had a solid AHL season.

Olofsson has never had as many assists in his career than he did in Rochester and was a near ppg player under Taylor

He had to adjust to the smaller size of the rinks, but Taylor had NOTHING to do with that either I suppose

Byson is on track to becoming a solid NHL player we will see what happens this year

This has nothing to do with Taylor being in the AHL hall of fame and everything to do with the disrespect shown to someone who did what he was asked to do and did it well and was poop canned by cheap owners

in a way i'm glad the pegulas are bumbling idiots, we could have gotten false hope otherwise.

if they had any PR inklings whatsoever they could have fired literally everyone, went on about how they had to clean house because the results have just been absent.

we would have all been excited, ready to roll with a fresh front office with a reminder that winning is the ultimate goal.

instead they do a presser about the economy being harder and having to thin out then fire everyone lmao. this had 0 to do with results.

Maybe the end of the year exit interviews from the players we drafted weren't as glowing as the Hallmark Cards on here?

From what I read and understand he liked to play his vets a lot in important situations and let the prospects wither on the bench. Winning in the AHL is nice but developing players is more important. Perhaps that was a problem and a reason for his demise.

The funny thing the Sabres were in the middle of the NHL when it comes to hockey staff, the athletic just did an article. They were nowhere near being heavy, they were just about average.

yeah, and if 4 days ago they came out and fired 30 people from the hockey ops department and said the need to rebuild the organization because the results havent been there for too long blah blah blah

we would have all eaten it up. it would have been completely warranted.
