it looks good now.

that's not the point.

be a good gm!!!!

how bout pastrnak? mackinnon?

those teams are in good spots due to those deals. we are not.

- TheHank

It's all about leverage right? Bruins and Avs had it when they negotiated those deals. Sabres didn't have any for Eichel or Skinner

He may have "overpaid" at that moment, but everyone knew the upside was far greater than the downside. At worst and i mean bad year he gets you 70pts. I see Jack being a 80-90 or 85-95 point player throughout his career.
- devias69

Time to get new eye glass Rx, lol.
78 in 68 this season; playing at 94 pts over 82 = 1.15 Pts per game.
Wait till he gets a decent supporting roster where opponents can't double / triple team him with their best players.

Would a 6 year deal for a little less really feel better? Would that savings really have made a significant difference?

8 years was key for the Sabres in that deal.
Draisaitl's deal is a steal though, no doubt.

Eichel is the 11th highest contract in the NHL. First couple years def overpayed. Might be slightly overpaid the next couple too.

Last 4 he should be slightly undervalued first 2/4 and last 2/4 it will look good. He will then be at an age that you will be overpaying for many declining years (IE a John Tavares contract) on his 2nd contract

I would of preferred a 2 year bridge for Eichel and him signing a big one this off season up to the age of 30 and traded him that final year

Jack's deal isn't why we are in the spot we are.

Sounds about right.
He was tied for 10th in scoring, being paid as 11th.
Seems like equal value if there is one in just his 2nd year of the contract.

I don't think there was any question that he was going to get at least 1m more than Leon. We should all be happy to have him for 8 years at a fair cost. There's been a clear shift towards shorter deals since. Imagine the panic here if he was on Matthew's-like 5 year deal.

I never mind paying for true impact players. He is one of them. Stop paying the middle tier players big money.

That's it, they have a chance to reset some things this year, especially if there's a Compliance Buyout.

Eichel is a borderline top 5 player in the NHL right now who probably would have been in the Hart consideration, might have even won it, if we made the playoffs.

I would have liked him to come in around $9.5M but once Draisatil got $8.5M (at that time he was not nearly the player he is today) that drove up Eichel’s tag to $10M

There's bigger things to worry about then Eichel's contract. How about fixing the problems around Eichel and give him some help on different lines so he isn't always double teamed. Botts can reset some of the problems with a few good trades and some of the prospects finally hitting the system.

Nationalism on it's own is not necessarily bad. Hitler was also a Socialist. Shouldl I start making assumptions?

The kneeling, and (literal) foot washing, and the chanting of oaths is creepy and weird. I will not be joining this new creepy and weird cult and their penchant for racial humiliation and Maoist struggle sessions. None of this is new, and when you look for historical examples of this type of behavior, the culprits are quite easy to identify.

Trump just took his daily dump. Which part do you smell? The log or the blow hole? Which is tastier you you? Which is like honey and which is like gummy bears?

Minneapolis Councilwomen says she’s fine with disbanding police because “being able to call the police if someone is breaking into your house comes from a place of privilege”

Can’t make this stuff up

The speed with which NY has changed its laws in the past 4 months is disturbing to say the least.

The legislative process is supposed to take time. Its designed to prevent laws changing overnight in response to panic, anger, and hysteria.

Most of these laws were under executive order of the Governor due to the Covid emergency powers he enacted. (which he also extended) I think the legislature should have the power to review his decisions and possibly revoke the executive powers he uses every 30 days or something. It wasn't designed for "long term" crisis

You would think a guy who just took the “bar” would know that.
