I would say it was overpayment but with the anticipation of continued growth. Which happened. He overpaid 2 seasons because He was betting on him Long term

He may have "overpaid" at that moment, but everyone knew the upside was far greater than the downside. At worst and i mean bad year he gets you 70pts. I see Jack being a 80-90 or 85-95 point player throughout his career.
