Between the pandemic and the way the last 4 or 5 nights have gone it’s hard to avoid just how (frank)ed up that country really is and what live is like for people who live at the bottom. I saw someone read responses to the question “how old were you the first time the cops pulled a gun on you”. Responses were about 15 and 14 year olds sitting in a car waiting for a friend to come out of a store or in their backyard when cops were looking for someone in the area. I’ve heard black guys explain about how they had “the talk” with their sons like their dads did with them; not a talk about sex but about what to do when confronted by cops.

I can’t see easy fixes. I’m shocked that there’s not more violence. I’m amazed at how restrained so many protesters have been and how many have tried to stop others from instigating trouble. The clock is ticking for that country.

Oh, and my kid told me a BLM convoy just drove by his apartment in Kingston

It really does seem like the "fall of an Empire" is happening right in front of our eyes and in slow motion...especially since Trump TOOK (stole) the office...and depending on what you believe - who got him in to office.

It will be interesting to see how history records this moment and what information we learn years from now.

But yeah, still not a good trade. On top of the Leafs not looking for futures (win now mode), Ottawa wouldn't want to include the pick that would be needed for the trade to make sense.

You could put it on Putin if it was a 4 or 8 or even 10 year old problem. I agree that Trump has accelerated it or has given approval to everyone’s worst instincts but they’ve been built into the society and economy for a long time.

Maybe a huge electoral defeat could be the start of something. Certainly Joe Biden would never be “that guy” on his own but neither would LBJ or JFK. Maybe history pushes him into it. There seems to be a big push in the party to be bolder. If they wn and (frank) this up or if they lose, New Zealand is looking good.

There is a theory (unproven) that police were nervous about doing their jobs after the reviews into their behaviour at Ferguson and as a result homicide rates went up. So the problem is the protest into police behaviour, not the police behaviour that was being protested? This is the problem that society has to look at with an open eye?

I think we all need to be brave enough to keep on blaming the victim.

While we’re at it, let’s blame Colin Kaepernick for giving Chauvin the idea about taking a knee.
