What don't you like about them? Neither are finished products at this point. ADB has shown that he can put up significant points in the NHL. Even if his goals were down this year, he still put up 45 points in 70 games this year. He certainly needs to improve defensively and exiting the zone, but there is a lot of talent there. Strome isn't everything you want out of a #2C (or a #3 overall pick for that matter), but he has put up points as well, and has improved defensively. They are 23, and 22 years old.

He's a natural center who can put up some points. Not the fastest guy but Toews - Dach - Strome up the middle would create problems for the other teams if the coach decided he wanted to do the whole line matching thing.

Didn’t St Louis win a Cup in Tampa?

AdB may be a one-trick pony - and I generally don’t like one-trick ponies - but if he can put up 40 a season (and, yes, he did it only once so far - maybe not ever again), I’m ok with that.

- StLBravesFan

I think in playoff hockey they will ride ADB far outside and make him a non factor. Maybe not first round but teams like the Preds, Blues, Carolina who we would not play until the finals in a normal year.

I don’t think he’s had trouble getting to the spots he’s wanted - I saw him going away from his best shot - quick, accurate wrister from the slot or Ovechkin’s home - and more to a much less accurate - and not as quick - slap shot.

I agree DBC is not a physical player ,he is scrappy for his size .He has a nose for finding open ice .Yes it was his shot selection that seemed off last year . He will find that ice even in the playoffs ,just needs to find his shot .

Max Domi is a diabetic, Canadiens have said he won’t play when season resumes if it’s not safe."

Weird... I remember a writer mention Max Domi's name specifically in one of his recent blogs.

* What if a star player doesn't feel safe? Max Domi for example is a type 1 diabetic and due to that he is immunocompromised. And that's just one example.

ADB definitely gets ridden out when carrying the puck in the zone, but if he's with someone who can do that and find the open spots he is very effective.

I'm not disagreeing with you much. I just think they can become much more than what they are now.

Tyler,

Would you be willing to keep a tally on this question to the board:
Would you prefer

1). To beat Edm and advance to net round - where we probably loose. This would result quite likely in a descent prospect available to draft no higher than # 16 and could in time become a solid contributor. Not necessarily a top line or top defense pair

2) or loosing against Edmonton and fairly good opportunity to select #9 or 10/remote chance to move up a few spots. Going to get a very good player here and might be playing nhl this season or next

- jhawk59

Good question. Maybe I'll do a poll on Twitter and include it in my next blog.

I will save my answer for said blog.

Thanks Theo.

Me think Mitchell will be allowed to play.

Do I think the Hawks should put him in the lineup and burn a year off his deal?

No... no I do not.

I will have more on that in an upcoming blog if the NHL and NHLPA decide to allow rookies that have signed to be eligible.

Well that will hurt Montreal chances of advancing ,although they still have the Price factor who it was said Pitt was not happy about . #Askarov
This whole thing is silly ,fans should be gearing up for a draft and FA sighing .

That Pronman got under my collarless shirt again today ripping ("downgrading") Cole Perfetti based on "his speed."
The kid has crazy core strength that allows him the wins on fighting through checks. I am not imagining that, Corey will you have stopwatch to him in free area skating...and the kid's got powerful quads / lowcentre of gravity that help those shots get off and tremendous IQ and vision when he isn't - and has a change of pace which would be difficult f he didn't have jump.

I bet if in the initial June 26th draft round if number one overall was not lotto balled to one of the disparaged seven, and a Montreal loss in the first play in gives them a one in eight chance to choose Alexis Lafrenière, Domi's team doctors might be advising against playing, eh?

That is Pronman's thing. He goes to skating every time. His skating is okay. Not great speed but his lateral movements are above average.

That vision, tho. Kane-like. I am warming up to him.

He has been playing against bigger players his whole life. He will find his spots. He is also more than a one trick pony. He is a decent playmaker. He did improve defensively in the latter half of the season.

Strome, on the other hand, was one of the worst defensively in the league and that is why they tried him on the wing.

Great to hear! Maybe he'll convince enough of the teams in front of us to pass on him, and we can get him with #9!

Expect the NHL and NHLPA to push back the June 1 signing deadline one month. The league and PA need more time to negotiate possibility of entry level players like Alex Romanov being allowed to play when/if 2019/20 season resumes.

Agree with your perspective on DeBrincat. Line him up with a playmaker in his bestie Strome as well as a rugged winger who can crash the net and wreak havoc in the corners to create space so DeBrincat can get to the open seams to wire shots on goal.

If healthy, Shaw would be a great option. Caggiula as well.

While Kubalik is the best at getting to scoring areas and sneaking into those open seams, DeBrincat isn't that far off.

One argument for not burning a year off of Mitchell's ELC this season (assuming the league allows recently signed ELCs to start now) is to have 3 full seasons of cost certainty at an affordable price especially given how much money is being lost now and possibly in the near term.

A helpful phrase I have read in a few scouting reports for various draftees is their skating will be fine. Prospects don't need to be speed merchants or super agile like a cat to make it in the NHL.

As long as a youngster isn't glacially slow and/or is always a step or two behind due to lack of nimbleness, then "poor" skating is sometimes an overblown critique.

Perfetti brings so much more to the ice than his skating. Agree, his vision and playmaking is unreal. Reminds me of Zegras. I'm envious the Ducks have him.

I would love Zegras or Krebs on the Hawks.

ol. I just saw that and was coming to post a retraction.

That being said, I wouldn't burn a year for this if it was my decision. It would be asking a lot for him to step in and play.
And I am a huge Mitchell guy.

Agility is more important than overall speed, imo. That is my issue with Strome. His speed is okay-ish once he gets moving. The problem is it take him too long to get going.
Short area bursts is what I look for. Perfitti has that. Strome doesn't. Just a comparison for an example of what I am saying.

You should check out his highlight video. Kid has excellent vision and you can see he knows where he is going with the puck before he gets it on his stick.

Same here as far as preferring agility over speed.

Another phrase I see a lot is "first 3 strides" as a factor for whether a player can keep up at the pro level. Doesn't mean first 3 strides to get to Mach 1 but more so first 3 strides to keep pace with NHL speed no matter what zone you're in.

Teply, for example, has been critiqued as going from a dark horse prospect to a top one if he can improve those first 3 strides. Well, that and general consistency across all 200 feet of ice but the latter tends to be something all prospects need to strengthen.

At least Teply isn't completely devoid of a defensive conscience.

I've seen a little of his play, and read several scouting reports, which is why I hope he falls to us. I know that there's almost no chance of it happening because most NHL GMs are a lot smarter than Pronman.
My dream scenario would be Perfetti falling to us at 9 because of his "skating issues," and Justin Barron falling to us late in the 2nd because of the blood clots. This is assuming we don't win the lottery.
