Off topic here but SpaceX is launching a couple
of astronauts to the International Space Station at 3:33 Central time. It will be the 1st manned launch by a US company. Previous manned launches were of course done by NASA and recent launches for Americans going to the ISS were on Russian rockets.
Hope all goes well. I'm sure it will be televised. |

He is running a business for profit. He doesn't own the team as a charitable entity.
The uniform player contract, as detailed in MLB’s collective bargaining agreement, contains language specific to the financial ramifications of a national emergency. The clause in paragraph 11 of the contract effectively allows MLB Commissioner Robert Manfred to suspend player contracts in situations where government orders force the cancellation of games.
Based on that clause, it might behoove MLB as a business to just cancel the season, would probably lose less than if they tried an 82 game season, and playoffs with no fans. - LAHawk
I get he's running a business, but i don't want to hear him crying about it.

In da 3rd?
I'll hoping to catch it if it is on. The last time I was able to actually watch a launch live was the Challenger. I still wince at the thought. |

Hockey related, so the Hawks are in the mini tourney, do we expect to see slow starting Toews or mid season Toews? Asking for a friend in EDM. |

I remember the first space shuttle landing. Was at t restaurant for lunch. We all stood up and applauded and cheered. The Challenger was aweful. I remember them showing the grandstand with the family members just looking into space in disbelief.

He's not really crying about it (in fact I haven't read anything directly from him). The owners are (for the most part) in a better financial position than the players. They are going to lose money this season regardless. If they find that shutting the whole season down loses less money than playing empty baseball stadiums the players lose a heck of a lot more than the owners, no (or do the players still get paid a certain percentage?).
I'm with you on your principle. No one wants to listen to a wealthy guy complain that he can't afford to put gas in his jet. I just don't think that is what is happening here. |

Have to admit if this goes through I'll be pulling for the Oilers. Makes no sense to give up at worst a #9-10 pick, and at best a #1-3, for going to at best #16 with one playoff round victory. |

I was 10 at the time. Everyone huddled into the gym and they put it on three TV's. I remember the teachers not knowing how to react. Our science teacher knew Ronald McNair. Just brutal. |

No, the equipment is the problem, because right now the tests go to labs, and it takes 24-48 hours to process the results. There is no machine (yet), that can process the assay within minutes. - LAHawk

ok so now it makes sense to me. there are 2 drawings. one in June and 1 after the pay in round if necessary. all we would know after june 26th if any of the loser in the playin 8 could move up. there is 24.5% chance that the bottom 8 can move into each of picks 1,2,3

Relax Wiz. I was just poking the bear.
I'm more curious about the Hawks in the mini-tourney against the Oil.
A lot of Hawks with playoff experience but, you have McDavid and Draisaitl with all of one playoff run in their careers. How hungry are they? And the Oil have the serial flopper Mike Smith in net. |

It's Rum that is kind of a tradition in Newfoundland. It's known to be strong tasting Rum and if memory serves to be an honorary "Newfie", you have to have a shot of Screech and kiss a cod fish.

I won’t pull for the Oil, but I have to agree with you, where the Hawks are in 2020, they are better off with the higher pick than three playoff games, JMHO. |

I am telling you, each team can RIGHT NOW go into hungry mode and start getting ready both mentally and physically and unlike the part playoff series, where you have maybe a week to plan, each staff can get their teams ready with loads of tactics and strategies for the confrontations.
So I glee that trite "who wants it more" may actually come into plat, a little.
and at draft slot #19 I am more than willing to take the Russian Goalie Askarov, the Russian forward, Rodion Amirov, or one of the Austrian or Czechs, even concussion riddled Hendrix Lapierre, or big defenseman...because there will still be nice players for picking, if they play well in the playoffs-in-offs.... |

Short term vs, Long term.
Cancelling the season means they probably lose more fans long term who never come back to the sport. Playing 82 games means that they retain a higher percentage long term, and thus protect long term earnings.
One of the reasons why it would be so great for the NHL to restart before anyone else is that with no other options, ratings would be high. Look at the numbers that The Last Dance and The Tiger Phil showdown delivered ratings wise because of so many people starved for sports programming.

I would guess Crawford would be in hungry mode, playing for next years contract (and to a lesser extent Strome, Kubalik, and the other RFA's).
