If NYI does win a lottery placement, we get their pick next year which will be unprotected. So, who knows?

Any NYI pick that lands at 13 to 15 in this year's draft would be sweet if it happens...

I guess it depends on the match ups. How many "upsets" can we expect?

Ottawa Senator outcomes for the Islanders draft pick are pretty straight forward.

If the Islanders win against Florida, Ottawa will have the Isles pick at 21.

If the Islanders lose against Florida, Ottawa will have the Isles' pick at 14 (or better).

However, if the Isles win a lottery draw, the Sens 1st round draft option would deferred to the 2021 draft.

Is it set it in stone that theyll pick 14 or better if the isles lose?

No, if Columbus lost to the Leafs, the Jackets would slip to 14 and Isles would be 15.

I take a 13 - 15 pick of Isles in a deep draft vs a unknow pick next year

If NYI loses in the play-in round then their pick is 15th overall unless one or both of Carolina and Pittsburgh loses. If one of Carolina or Pittsburgh loses, the pick is 14th. If both lose, the pick is 13th. Pittsburgh and Carolina both had better records than NYI based on points percentage.

All of the above assumes that none of those 3 teams win a draft lottery pick in round 2 of the draft lottery.

If Pittsburgh, Carolina or both lose in the play-in round, then the pick drops from 21 to 22 or 23.

If the Isles make it to the semi-finals, the pick falls to the 28 to 31 range.

25% combined probability of winning 1st overall. Over 70% combined probability of drawing one of the top 3 picks. So, if they win the lottery outright they will get Lafreniere plus a very good player.

If they draw the 2 or 3 they will get either Byfield or Stutzle plus a good player.

If they draw two of the 4, 5, or 6 They will get two from a list that includes the likes of Rossi, Perfetti, Drysdale, Raymond, Holtz. They are going to come out of this with 3 strong players from the first round and 4 very strong prospects in round 2. Lots of things to be excited about.

Absolutely. I'm really happy about the draft odds and it's amazing they have 2 great picks.

That said, they NEED to get a top 3 pick OR have Stutzle drop to #4.

Looking at the Sens right now, they only seem to have 2-3 forwards of top end scoring ability ( I use top end loosely): Tkachuk, Batherson; White or Norris?

So June 26th comes around, and the winner of the 1st is by chance "Team A". What the hell does that mean?

Is it based on the teams that get knocked out of the playoffs; who gets Lafrienere then?

There will be a Second lottery once teams are eliminated...

So laf could seriously wind up on Pittsburgh or Toronto.

My understanding is that they draw all three.

If no placeholder team wins, lottery is over. Teams will draft where they finish or win.

If say, Placeholer A wins Draft pick 2, there will be a second lottery down the road.

Just spitballing, but a lottery where eliminated teams had a set number of spots to move up seems better? ( yes I am biased)

So if Pittsburgh for example gets the short end of the stick with this crazy system, they still get say, the 10th overall in a deep draft. But a team like Montreal could still win 1st overall since they fi ished low.
