It helps, but we don’t depend on cottagers.
- DrunkenCanuck

Maybe not wherever the frank you are from. You depend on government handouts.

To suggest that the Muskoka region doesn't rely on cottagers is absurd.

Here's what the Township of Lake of Bays says:

The current economy is based on tourism, recreation, and the service sector with forestry and aggregate extraction contributing as well. Lake of Bays
is home to the historic SS Bigwin Steamship, the
Dorset Fire Tower and the Lake of Bays – Muskoka’s
fourth largest lake.

Here's what the Township of Georgian Bay says:

The current economy relies on serving tourists and
summer cottagers, and is perhaps best known for
the historic Delawana Resort and its abundance of
marinas.

I could fill up a book on quotes from mayors and heads of economic development who say the same thing.

Why the frank are you even arguing this?

My original point was I hope that cottagers are spending money up there, as the local economies depend on them.

So I'm glad.

Cool?

- Atomic Wedgie

There’s less cottagers but more work. So it’s good.

Ur original point was that we should be thankful for the citiots.

Shouldn't you be?

Feel free to hate the arseholes, of which there are too many to be sure, but yeah, you should be thankful for the citiots.

No?

Scientific fact: Bees cannot laugh.
So you are safe.

But they snicker and talk behind your back like mafackers!

They should be thankful that locals provide services.

We don’t need them, but they need us. We’d just be another N.Ontario town w/o the Muskoka lakes.

Ice cream truck just came down our street.

The adults were happier than the kids.

I got a small vanilla cone with chocolate dip.

If you subtract the economic contributions they make through the purchase of goods and services, your economy would be devastated.

If you subtract the property taxes they provide, every single municipality would be bankrupt.

I'm not stating this to be a pr!ck - I'm stating simple economic facts.

Toronto would be dead without the financial services industry.

The Greater Golden Horseshoe would be dead without advanced manufacturing.

Ottawa would be dead without civil service dollars.

Niagara region without tourism.

Here in the maritimes we are greatly dependent on tourism dollars. You don’t have to like tourists but only an idiot would try to say the area doesn’t benefit from it.

Yep, but he isn't talking about tourism. He's talking about cottagers that own places there and Contribute to the economy yearly, paying Land taxes, supporting local business. You know them stupid foreigners

Ya I get all this. What I said was is we’d become just another N.Ontario town if the cottagers stopped coming in droves. That’s the story of every town in N.Ontario, they adapt when industry fails. But in this case, cottagers aren’t here, but they’re still spending on renos etc.. I live here all winter (w/o the cottagers) and our local economy chugs along fine.

We’re in winter mode.

If you can’t survive off just the locals, you’re probably a seasonal business here anyways. There’s really not a lot of businesses here, lol..

Yeah I don't know where you are but there are a shyte ton of places that depend on summer business to stay open, and its mostly cottage towns.
