If the NJ Devils come away with Lucas Raymond, Anton Lundell, and Seth Jarvis with their 3 first round picks as happened in this mock, they will have had themselves one hell of an amazing draft.

Been watching the daily Cuomo updates and I gotta tell you, it's refreshing to hear a high-ranking official constantly harping about the need to wear a mask. Every day he talks about the benefits of wearing a mask, while meanwhile a crapload of Americans are basically laughing it off, gathering in public and not social distancing, and not wearing a mask like the morons they are. People blatantly ignoring CDC recommendations, not caring about whom they're infecting ... that just sickens me. They just don't care about spreading a deadly virus to their loved ones. So stupid. Will a basic mask totally prevent you from catching the virus ? No, but you stand a better chance of fluids (sneezes, coughs, & spit from someone talking close to you) not entering your mouth or nose if you wear a mask...it's really that simple.

I never was a Cuomo fan, but thank you Governor Cuomo for being a voice of reason in this state.

Here in Ontario we had our highest amount of cases since May 8th.

People are starting to go out again with no disregard for anything.

I wonder what North America would have looked like if we didn’t start telling people to say at home and social distance. I’d say the amount of cases and deaths would have doubled with the exponential growth we were seeing prior to the stay at home procedures

I would be ecstatic if we walked out of this draft with one of Rossi or Raymond.

Now make your big trade for the 2C and now you get 3 years of Cozens and this years pick on their ELC’s to go all in.

I am nearly certain attitude you describe is something that developed for a majority of the posters on this board through the summer last year and over the course of this season.

A year ago in June most were confident that Botts had an appropriate strategy to sit tight this year and wait to remake the team when all the contracts expired at the same time.

Since then, Miller, Vesey, Jokiharju, Frolik and Simmonds come on board, with Scandella, Nylander and picks going out.

If we really weren’t expecting anything until this year, the tinkering was all more or less neutral other than committing us for a few years to Miller and Vesey, and upgrading us IMO with Jokiharju.

I think what left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth is that he STILL doesn’t have a 2C, and when we came out of the Gates so fast fans changed their minds and didn’t want to wait to remake the roster.

I think, anyway.

Also, this is not a post that supports Botterill. It’s a post that tries to recall evolving expectations. I am tired as hell of a losing streak and I’m looking for the best way to flip it. I would not have objected to sending out picks and prospects (and players!) for the 2C.

Some points on the above:

- A few years on Vesey? He's a UFA, and they may not bring him back. I know I wouldn't.

- The Frolik and Simmonds trades were head scratchers, especially the Frolik trade.

- To add to the above, if Botterill really was putting all his eggs in the upcoming offseason basket, then how does he allow a cap overage due to bonuses carry over into next season? That's what made the Frolik trade doubly mystifying.

- Sure, it's only a little over a million, but that's only because he's damn lucky the season ended prematurely AND that Dahlin missed games due to a concussion.

- If not for the above, the cap overage due to bonuses would be north of $3M next season.

- As J Crag often points out, his consistent throw poop against the wall approach seems to fly in the face of having this coming offseason being the goal the entire time.

Hearing June 26 is the date that we should have the NHL Lottery Draft. No dates on the NHL Draft yet.

Yep, that looks like a bad mistake. I still love his stance on the masks though, and pretty much everything he's said (except the nursing home thing, which yes, is huge).

That sucks. Hope she's OK.

Still, wear a mask everyone. It's good, common sense advice - no matter who's giving it.

Solid post.
The expectations did evolve on the timeline you suggested, at least for me.
I went batpoop crazy on him in June and July 2019, after being like warm on him before then.

I cut him slack once the season started, giving him u till the Xmas break to do something.
Nothing.
The narrative that he was working hard during that timeframe soured me again as I realized he was/is ineffective.

I'm all for people wearing masks.
But to be clear, the wearing of the mask is meant as a method to prevent YOU as an infected person from spreading the infection to others by reducing the amount and trajectory of the moisture droplets from YOUR mouth.
Unless it is a N95 mask, and more specifically a properly fitted N95 mask to you specifically, other masks just are not effective in significantly reducing the inhalation of airborne particles yourself.

In short, you are wearing a mask to protect others, not you.

Was watching CNN the other night when the host stated he wondered just how many more lives would have been saved if Trump had ordered the lockdown just 1 week earlier.

Never mind it is the Govenors who have that authority for their State.

The talking out of both sides of their face is really quite entertaining.
