Spurgeon is another underrated d-man. However at $7.5M for 7 years until he’s 37 ? I’m not sure that provides better value then Brodin.
Brodin turns 27 in July, won’t be as expensive as he doesn’t put up as many points on the back end, yet would provide much more value to the team winning games. He plays the right side in Minny as well.
I would like to watch a Dahlin-Brodin pairing for 25 minutes a night reck absolutely havoc. - Pegullaville
Brodin will get paid on his next deal, big time, and he'll be signing that deal after next season.
Are you good with paying Dahlin and Brodin a combined $17M or more as your top pair? Not sure I am. |

No sabres til December?
Hey Botterill

He is indirectly helping us though. Cozens and our pick this year help us more long term then playing 10 extra games the past two years.
Imagine if the Leafs would have traded Bozak and JVR and sucked for one additional year instead of making a heroic run to get knocked out by the Caps in 6 games a few years back ?
What would that bottom 6 look like today ? They wouldn’t of had to go to the outer edges of Siberia to find another KHL’er to fill their depth spots. |

I’m not so sure he’ll get $7.5M because like you said, players get paid for points not necessarily team impact.
Brodin at $6-6.5M would be the best contract for a d-man in the NHL if Dahlin is racking up 70 points and nobody crosses our blue line cause Jonas is the Swedish wall. |

All I know is that after 3 years, he couldn't even get the team to finish 24th
Embarrassing and pathetic

I’m on your wavelength moving forward here though.
There is no excuse for us to not be a playoff team next year nor is there a player on the roster aside from Eichel, Dahlin, Cozens and this years pick (I would be more inclined to keep Joker also) that should not be moved in order to achieve that goal.
It’s time to make the moves now. |

1st overall for #4 and Tkachuk? - Michael Pachla
If you look at previous trades for #1 it amounts to one major piece and spare parts acquired.
#4 and Tkachuck and parts for #1 and parts.
I’d be listening. |

If the lottery is changed to only 1 winner and the most you could move up is 3 spots, which I have seen mentioned as a possibility, if we won it would put us #4. If NJ offered #7 and #10 for #4 do you do it? |

May have missed it here, but Flacco's the new backup for the Jets. Think he ends up getting any starts this year? |

What is the breakpoint you draw the line at?
Also, if you could land Dahlin with a 8x 7.5m say, does that change your mind.
Curious on contract values is all. |

If we don't start improving, is Dahlin even gonna want to sign a long term contract or will he try to bridge it. I think you already have your top pair on the team with Joker-Dahlin. |

Good question.
I would need more info, like who was the 3rd selection AND who is NJD targeting.
If they want Drysdale; AND Rossi, Holts and Raymod are available then yes.
Without that data, my gut says I would need a bit more included to offset the uncertainty and risk of not getting 1 of the 2 players I want at 7 and at 10 you are stepping down in most draft tiers that seem to draw a line around the 8th pick. So that is additional risk I would want to be compensated for. |

Could be, infact I hope so!
But at this point, given he played alot at 3rd pair I'm not completely sold...and he needs time as in 2 -3 years to get there I would think.
Plan for the worst, hope for the best.
What's interesting to me is the hesitance people have for the possibility of a newly acquired player becoming a star and their thinking that it would be concerning if a younger player were to knock on the door to take the position away for that player.
Please, bring me 6 or 8 of those problems, I guarantee it won't be a "problem"! |

That would be fantastic actually, maybe it would put some drive into the other players. This team could use some of it. |

Brodin and Dahlin both can play the right side.
If Brodin ends up on the 2nd pair then you have your top 4 set for the next 5+ years.
