For anyone wondering why I have a man crush for Jonas Brodin.
https://www.thepointhocke...top-defenders-in-the-nhl/ - Pegullaville
Jonas Brodin is quite possibly the number one defenseman in the NHL defensively.
However, he provides next to nothing offensively, while his teammate, Jared Spurgeon, is excellent offensively and defensively.
Not counting each player's contract situation, I would take Jared Spurgeon every time. |

Spurgeon is another underrated d-man. However at $7.5M for 7 years until he’s 37 ? I’m not sure that provides better value then Brodin.
Brodin turns 27 in July, won’t be as expensive as he doesn’t put up as many points on the back end, yet would provide much more value to the team winning games. He plays the right side in Minny as well.
I would like to watch a Dahlin-Brodin pairing for 25 minutes a night reck absolutely havoc. |

If the Sabres win first overall, Ottawa would have nos. 3 and 4. Kinda changes the dynamic for Buffalo.
Right? - Michael Pachla
Idk?
Is (maybe) losing out on Byfield kill the deal?
He’s not a lock to go 2nd anyways,
so might even get him at 3 |

I believe the consensus is Lafreniere at No. 1 followed closely by Byfield then Rossi and Stutzle generally atop a group of six or so players.
Idk what the drop off from top-2 to the next group is but assuming Byfield is No. 2, there's no way I trade Lafreniere for two of those players in the 3-8 range.
That's how it changes the dynamics for me |

When was the last time a team traded in the top-5? Sedins? |

Theoretically when SJ obtained EK from Ottawa. Now, they definitely didn’t think they were trading a future top 5 pick but it happened. |

03 Pittsburg when they moved up to get MAF.
04 Carolina obtained the rights to Ladd(4th overall) for the 8th pick and parts.
07 Toronto moved from 7th to 5th to take Schenn. |

The Seguin trade from Toronto to Boston but that falls under the EK trade |

The Seguin trade made the "lottery protected" 1st rounder fashionable. |

It would be tough for me to trade away Lafreniere
But it’s an interesting idea to consider if Ottawa are offering those 2 picks
And I’d of course be greedy & ask for Tkachuk,
at least to see what they’d make us add |

Burke in '99 is a perfect example. Brilliant move as the rest of that draft outside the twins was pretty weak
Edit: and Tin Man too |

Being able to land Byfield at 3 and one of Rossi or Stultze (or even Perfetti) at 4 changes the equation for me. However, I'd really have to think hard about doing it. |

They would have to sweeten it up more for my taste. Maybe add Batherson and Bernard Docker |

We would have 2 franchise centers in the HOF easy pass
And I love TK but he will get a huge contract soon |

Lafreniere is a winger though. |
