People don't believe the media anymore so they become suspicious of everyone and everything. Don't know who to trust anymore. It can't really end well.
- BashCH

It won't end well at all... and I don't blame people for doubting the media and politicians but you would hope most have enough common sense to ignore things that don't make any sense at all

Some people will never have common sense. There's always the 5-10% of very stupid people that you have to write "Caution - Hot" on their coffee so they don't burn themselves.

Sure but you can't protest a virus... a fine line between freedom and freedumb!

And success is measured in different ways, in many ways the States are far from successful and this pandemic has really exposed that!

I don't feel sorry for any of these people that get sick and possibly die (or, tbh, their family and friends because of them).

I do feel sorry for the front health care workers that will have to put their lives on the line to try to save these idiots from their stupidity and selfishness.

That second point is where the real problem is, the collapse of the health care system as a result of these uneducated fools protesting a god damn virus!

tbf it didn't collapse. What hurt it, especially in the states, was basically preventing non covid patients from entering hospitals.

if they go ahead with the 24 teams playoffs format and still hold a draft in June as rumored, do the Habs draft 8th and lose the 6% chance they had at moving up in the draft lottery in exchange for 3 or 4 playoffs games?

Or do they hold the draft after the playoffs and risk losing their draft spot and get out of the top 10?

It does have a trickling down effect throughout the whole system for sure, that's another reason to not be stupid and apply extra pressure on them... and without the "lockdown" there's a good chance it would have collapsed

Top 10 from each conference, with the top 6 playing a round robin, equating to 5 games played for each. At the same time the bottom 4 teams play a win and in best of 5 series, with 1 playing 4 and 2 playing 3. A series might go 5 games, equating the round robin, but all will go 3 games. The winning teams join the top 6 creating an 8 team play off. It eliminates those 11 and 12 teams that have no business being included.

I believe people's real gripe with the lock downs is how arbitrary the laws were. First it was 2 weeks flatten the curve, then another month. After 45 days it essentially became we will keep this lock down until we say so... despite curves flattening. Also determine what is essential and what isn't, what phase do I get to open. And people who haven't been able to work coupled with 3 months of partial government benefits are no longer paying the bills. It's natural people will be pissed. How long can the burden be placed solely on the average citizen?

I agree that there is a case to be made but essential services were always available, definitely a burden, we all feel it but it is a global medical crisis! I get the frustration, how can you not but the issue is not whether you can go to the mall or not right now! Everyone has had to sacrifice some, acting like a child will not benefit anyone!

There's also the issue with income, hard for me to speak on the US situation but I've worked 2 weeks out of the last 10 and I have been compensated incredibly! I'm not sure that's the case down south, which can be quite a hurdle during this time!

Very much so.

8 is enough and 16 is fine.

I was talking more about the states. I feel Canada has done a better job based on a few factors, most importantly the fed and prov governments working closer together and less partisanship overall.

Also here government help was directly through them. In the states, the money was handed to the banks to distribute, so in turn they decided to pick the winners.

I'd do 12 teams. 12 v 9 and 11 v 10 in 1 game play ins. Then 7 vs lowest seed and 8 play second lowest in 3 game series'. Then when there are 8 teams do the normal 7 game series'

Different situations for sure, obviously it starts at the top and if the response is not up to the task the whole thing falls apart and before you know it half the country is drinking bleach and the other half wants to hang Bill Gates and Anthony Fauci! Religious nuts coming from all angles!

Completely agree. Long term we need a good draft pick not a cheap thrill that will last 5 seconds

I'm depressed enough as it is. I don't need to see them get trounced in 3 games.
