Briere was such a clutch player for the Flyers during his time here, 283 points in 364 games, not to mention 72 points in 68 playoff games.
Looks like we’ll be drawing the Penguins again first round of the playoffs if they start the season back up. |

Yes. And remember the great debate. The big three that year was Gomez Drury and Danny b. While I always liked drury. The flyers got the right one that year. |

That Drury contract did not age well, not saying Gomez did either but Drury was taking some pretty expensive face offs and that’s about all he was doing towards the end |

Question
If we are playing games into August and Patrick is still not fully cleared for contact, is it time to wonder if his career is over?

You’d have to think so, wouldn’t you? I mean, by August he should be in full training mode for next season, under normal circumstances, if he’s not cleared by then there’s got to be some serious issues going on. |

Have not been here in a while but,
Is there a consensus for the path forward with Patrick?
He has no trade value and is down the depth chart so holding on to him makes sense? Or not?
I feel so bad for him but we are in the business of winning. |

He’s only what 22, I understand he’s been out a long time but he’s very very young to call a career over especially when we have been left in the dark on just about all of the information on his condition and what kind of progress he’s made. He was skating on a frequent basis was he not ? |

Yeah but non contact.
I cannot believe, should he be prone to migraines/concussions, how did he make it so far in the projections without it happening already.

This will end with us releasing him and he will want to play anyway and will be signed.
For pennies on the dollar if he does anything at the pro level. |

It’s next to impossible to speculate if we know next to nothing about what is actually going on with the kid.
Bill, say they play out the season and it ends, as a closing presser would there be any reason to believe we’d receive a more in depth update, and why is it being held in so tight in the first place ? |

An interesting question would be whether his number should be retired. His sole reason would likely be his playoff numbers although I don’t know if he was here long enough to warrant it. |

I think that would open the door for one too many debatables. If retiring a number is a debate it should immediately be a no. The next number retired I would think will be Giroux. |

He's always going to have these "good days, bad days" that Bill has eluded to in previous articles.
My honest opinion he won't play again. Hope I'm wrong. |

The Flyers will tender him his QO and LTIR him if needed. |

I’ve always felt his career was in question if he was unable to return right now. Think about it. I understand caution but he was practicing for sometime before the outbreak. It’s been two months. He still hasn’t been cleared for contact. From my understanding, he was practicing with the idea of playing before the original regular season ended. |

If they’re gonna scrap the season, I think the Islanders and Rangers should play each other. While the Canucks and Wild face each other. Some kind of wild card format more like baseball or football. Give the top two seeds a first round off.
(frank), I don’t know. I don’t think anyone should enter the playoffs rusty |

That was what Fletcher kept saying, but you take any GM talk with a grain of salt. The fact that Patrick hasn’t commented is telling. If he was feeling good and close to being cleared for contact, you’d expect to hear something.
I’m starting to think that while migraines are certainly part of his issue, PCS is just as big a part. |

What I’d do, FWIW
Break them down into 4 groups of 6 teams each:
Washington, Philly, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Islanders, Columbus
Boston, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Florida, Rangers, Montreal
St. Louis, Colorado, Dallas, Nashville, Minnesota, Chicago
Vegas, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Arizona
Play a round robin within each group. The results of those games to be added to the regular season standings. Rank each group by points percentage. The top 2 teams in each group get a bye while 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5 in a one game showdown to make the playoffs.
The teams that don’t make the final 16 get the 8-15 spots in the draft. A lottery with the other 7 teams is done for picks 1-7 with Detroit guaranteed to pick no lower than 4.
The rest of the playoffs proceed as follows:
Two best of 5 rounds to reduce each “division” from 4 teams to 1. Best of 7 conference finals followed by best of 7 SCF
It’s not perfect but it’s the best they can do. Also, the draft needs to be after the Cup is awarded. |

If you trade Ghost and TK (package them?) you now have $10M more in cap space going forward. Literally EVERY player who has been on wing with Coots and Hayes have been great. Grant is more valuable to the team than TK. TK is the current Ghost. He looks better than he really is, so if you use him as a way to unload Ghost, its well worth it. |

The real problem is that in the East there are really 14 teams that deserve a shot. Buffalo and New Jersey were three points out with two games in hand. If either team wins both, no more Montreal.
