Some things I think might happen this next season.

I think with the league saying that the cap will go up by 3-6 million next year then the next month saying sorry we need to take that back. I think there will be a compliance buy out. It is not mandatory but they sort of screwed up 20 teams planning and mostly the bottom teams are not affected. (Not the leagues fault there was a world wide pandemic)

Canucks have 18 forwards including Sven. My guess is four will be moved. I think Sutter will be traded to a team like Buffalo Montreal or someone needing a center , I think Canucks will keep half the salary.

Sven will be packaged or a regular buyout ( not a compliance buyout)

Eriksson will probably be playing next year for 600k after Bonus is paid and salary cut backs . Lets see if he is still around.

I think teams will look at ELC contracts to help their cap. Possibly Hoglander is on the Canucks next year but I still think he will play one more year in Sweden.

I don't see a need for Jake Roussel and Ferland someone needs to go.

I think Gaudette who doesn't have Arb rights will get signed to a one year deal of 1.5 mil

I think it is going to be a damn good offseason not only for Canucks but fun for the league.

I doubt there will be compliance buyouts. The timing of the proposed cap and then the pandemic have absolutely nothing to do with “planning” for next season. Trade deadline acquisitions (like Toffy) were not planned for next year, they were for the remainder of this year. There is no player on the Canucks (or any other team for that matter) that was picked up/signed based on next years expected cap number.


Edit, on some of these other thoughts, I can’t see the advantage of trading Sutter and retaining salary. Doesn’t make sense to me.

I agree, Gaudette will get a minor raise on a 1 or two year deal. I doubt MacE gets even a mil. Jake is the only one who I think will get a substantial raise (based on age/eligibility, scoring rate etc)
