The Flyers haven’t retired Pelle officially, but nobody has worn 31 since. I think that’s a fine way of handling it considering the circumstances.

Propp might be a good choice for them instead if you don’t want Recchi. Personally, I liked Recchi even if he did play for Pitt.

Considering that they haven’t even turned 30 yet, but still had success, I don’t hate that idea for Giggy in Anaheim. He was key for them for a spell.

Jean Sebastian Giguere. Similar numbers to Martin broudoure. But jiggy did it with less defense in from of him. And he doesn't get any hype because he played on the west coast. Its criminal. I hope the players vote him in.

Ron Ellis, the Toronto Maple Leafs have retired many legends numbers but how can they not of retired their top 6 in points and have played over 1000 NHL games with their club. He also represented team Canada many times, was part of the last Maple Leafs team to win the cup. He was allowed to change his number to another legends and because of that they will not put his jersey up next to that legends. In my opinion they should both be up there with their numbers being retired. As the legend who gave him the number said he was honored for him to play with it.

Peter Stastny!

Second most points of any player in the 80’s behind Gretzky. Defected from Czechoslovakia and helped pave the way for many other Europeans to do the same. One of the greatest Nordiques to ever play and should 100% be recognized by the avalanche organization!

As a Devils fan I would love to see them retire #1 for Chico Resch. Mind you I know in 4 seasons he only won 49 games but that is when the franchise was a literal gutter bomb..but he was a true first face of the franchis who helped bridge the gap between the terrible years until their first taste of relevance in 1987. And lets not forget all his years behind the mic on TV and Radio calling Devil games and he is STILL one of the franchises best representatives to this day

League-wide, yeah, I think Lemieux's #66 should be retired. I know some get upset by this comparison but if he and Gretsky were to swap careers, I have a hard time seeing Gretsky doing much better with the horrible Pens teams of the 80's. Lemieux playing on the same team team as Messier, Kurri, and Coffey, under the protection of enforcers like Semenko and McSorley (Lemieux was not well protected for most of his career)? That would be pretty incredible.

Ultimately both #66 and #99 should be retired league-wide. Ho-Sang and TJ Brodie both claimed that wearing #66 was a show of respect toward Lemieux. With that being the case, would they seriously have the nerve to wear #99 (if they were allowed), if Gretsky were their favorite player? I doubt it.

Regarding Jagr, yes, the Pens should definitely retire his number. I suspect that they will soon. He was the best winger to ever play on the team and one of the best in league history - better than Ovi in my opinion. However, I think that for someone who wears the "C" for a period of time the team also judges their leadership abilities in deciding whether to retire their number. This standard would likely never be applied to Malkin, for example, since he was never expected to be the team leader like Jagr.

In this regard Jagr was not always the best, for example the time he cried on the bench and stormed off into the lockerroom, the "dying alive" comments, and the personal issues (gambling debts) that seems to affect his attitude and even play late in his time with the Pens. With this in mind the Pens have case for not retiring his number, although I think they should anyway. He was responsible for lots of great Penguins memories in the late 90's, culminating in one final "hurrah" in 2001.

Sorry but no way does Mario ever get considered for league wide number retirement.he is a legend but to me if you were to do that then whats next 8 for Ovechkin league wide..30 for Brodeur league wide...Wayne Gretzky was pure untouched legegend the likes the NHL will never see again in anyones lifetime and he shall be the only one who sees his number retired across the board!

I think that Edmonton should retire number 4 Kevin Lowe. He was the first ever draft pick of the nhl oilers, scored their first goal 5 cups. Guy was underappreciated in edmonton with the wealth of talent out there at the time, he also went on to build some pretty decent oilers teams as gm in the early 2000s

Kevin Lowe definitely put in his time as an Oilers, but if you put Lowe in, you'd have to consider Huddy. Huddy had 16 less total points than Lowe as an Oiler, but played 343 less games. Lowe had 384 pts and Huddy had 368.
Both players were very good stay at home d-man, but as to point productivity...they lacked in that area. I'd put Huddy ahead of Lowe based on the fact they were similar shut down d-man, but Huddy would've finished way ahead of Lowe if he played the 343 more games. However, let's be honest if it came down to loyalty and time put in... Lowe wins by a bit, but let's remember Huddy came back as well and might still be here if we didn't fire him.

Should they be nominated for number retirement? No

She they be recognized as loyal and dedicated Oilers? Yes

Going out on a limb. Unpopular choice for sure. Claude Lemieux. He won four Stanley Cups (on three different teams no less), and a Conn Smythe trophy. His numbers are more than good enough.

Maybe if it wasn't for the Draper hit he would have made it already.
