Has Tanner come down from cloud 9 after listening to Greta on CNN last night. I watched. Basically she said she had some mild symptoms after travelling around Europe, so she decided to self-isolate. Anderson Cooper hailed her a hero for doing the right thing to keep everyone safe. She urged everyone to listen to science. Cooper asked if it was hard to stay inside for those 2-3 weeks. That's when Greta admitted that she wasn't locked in her home, but was going outside to parks. What a hero! #science

Just want to be clear about something here: after two pages of denigrating my masculinity and calling me a $$$$$ you , the bastion of machismo, are bashing an 11 year old girl?

Respect, bro.

First of all...she is 17 years old, not 11.

Second, I'm not bashing her. I feel sorry for her. She's a puppet. What I am laughing at are the adults who for some reason idolize her, and fail to see the hypocrisy that is all around her. She preaches self-isolation but was busy hanging out in the park. She preaches a low-carbon footprint, yet flies all around the world. Can't they beam her in on video? She held a "rally" in my city...after the rally, her crowd of adult followers left a government property full of trampled flowers, broken tree branches, and Starbucks garbage everywhere. The protest was about respecting the environment. You can't make this up. But some adults, ahem, are too blind to see it.

That seems like a pretty lame thing to complain about man, give me a break. I would say in six years of writing here that is the most minor thing a person has eve whined about.

The culture of the NHL is that if a player is big, physical, blocks shots, and throws big checks then he is said to be good defensively.

If the coach uses him on the PK or in the last minute of a game, then a player who does all the stuff listed above usually gets labeled as a good defensive player, almost universally.

- James_Tanner

That's true. If a player is good defensively, then he is. If he's not then he's not. Pretty simple.

But in the last decade, the use of advanced stats has routinely proven that players who fit the above profile are actually not very valuable and often have negative impact on the games.

It turns out that a "bad" defensive player who can move the puck up the ice and contribute offensively prevents more goals for this team than the so-called stay-at-home-defenseman.

I remember that I was a fan of Michalek. But knowing what I know now, I question whether he was actually good.

I mean, if an NHL coach can make the mistake of thinking a Polak is actually helping his team, of course a lousy blogger like me should question the things he sees in a game.

I mean, it's not like I've watched a least one game per day every day for 27.5 years like the other champ in this thread, but it seems reasonable to me.

You're almost there but not quite. You're mostly correct. Where you go off the rails is in your attitude. You keep wanting to pretend that there are a bunch of NHL coaches and GM's who are behind the times and haven't caught up to your wisdom that you obtained from naturalstattrick and other analytic websites. While ignoring that NHL coaches favor skilled puck moving two way defenseman. We know this because they're the players that get the most ice time. That doesn't change that you still need certain kinds of players for situational play such as key D zone draws and the PK. Much better to use them for some of those minutes to not wear out your better players. You also need to understand that there is a shortage of elite defenseman who can play at a high level in all situations. Other players have strengths and weaknesses to their game.
The problem with the anlaytics community is that they try and hold all players to the same standard. The Roman Polak's aren't going to have strong fancy numbers. They're not supposed to. They're role players and they still have value to a team.

Open all arenas.

With this simple rule: If you don’t want to leave your home – stay home. Everything else is open.

If anyone (including a hockey player) is too frightened to leave home – stay home. We aren’t in this all together. Those working at home, being paid, are not the same as those who have been ordered to shut down their businesses or can’t work because a business (not deemed essential) was shut down.

Open the arenas… and (as a fan) if you want to stay home – stay home. No money back to season-ticket holders. You come to games at your own risk. Wear a mask or don’t wear a mask… it would be up to you. If a team decides they will not open their arena… forfeit the games… the 2-points get awarded to the opponent unless they also decide not to open.

TV revenues would soar… crowds would be smaller… so what. Those who decided not to open – also give them lower rated draft picks. Its not easy, but a schedule could be (quickly) setup by those willing to come out of their home and those who decide to stay in.

Everyone is a happy camper. Even those who decided to stay in lockup as they get to watch the TV games in stead of a crappy repeat of a movie. Do people really watch games that have already been played? How boring their lives have to be!

Oh, on stimulus cheques… (maybe) they shouldn’t have sent out the first ones but for sure they should put at stop to the next ones.

Give everyone a back their a job... most would have an opportunity to go back to their work… unless, of course, you never had one or decide to stay in your home.

Many problem solved -- those who want to stay home - there you go, stay (safe)
at home.

And, its not so much more involved than that except for you who never had a job, a business and/or are a soccer fan.

If the intention of this blog is to be a political thread, why don't we make it interesting and discuss an important story being covered up by the MSM. The best way to make front-page-worthy stories come to light when they are intentionally ignored is to make it go viral, so why don't we give it a go.

Also, Aaron Mate is a journalist I recommend you follow. It is sad that he only gets exposure by going on a youtube comedian's show, but there you have it. He worked for Democracy Now for a decade but now works independently and has been one of the very few sane voices on stories such as Russia-gate and many others, including this story below.

If you are not familiar with this story, whistle blowers and ample leaked documents confirm yet another manufactured consent situation in which the US pressured the supposedly independent OPCW to frame a false narrative regarding the alleged gas attack on Douma by Assad. This article and video discuss how it is now more probable that the canisters were placed from a team on the ground and not dropped from above, thereby discrediting the official narrative. There are many more details, but here ya go:
