The catch with the deal would be Manson looking for a hefty raise in 2 years when he would be turning 32.

I’d take out Mitts & add in Asplund or Tage
Manson is solid, not great
Same with Henrique
And it’s over 10mil in Cap, right?
And they get 3 years younger on defense with Risto

If Mitts value is that low, u just keep him

- jdfitz77

Maybe the Ducks add a pick or a prospect, the trade is not out of whack, Manson is better then Risto and would allow Dahlin to just play.

I’m not having the Ducks add a pick to make it work
I’m taking out Mitts
No reason to sell low on him

If it was just Manson,
then we might have to add Mitts to outbid teams like the Leafs
But taking Henrique as part of the deal accomplishes that as well- and takes the Leafs & a bunch of other teams out of the running

Manson + Henrique
for
Risto + Tage or Asplund + Pekar or 3rd

Something like that

If only we could pull deals of on this board, but it's fun to talk about.

Just using the Above Replacement advanced metrics alone (Goals, Wins, Standard Points), I found the following interesting:

- League average for the three categories combined was 3.4
- Former Sabre Marco Scandella had the best number in each category and the best combined number overall (14.2)
- McCabe and Ristolainen were at 9 and 8.6 respectively
- Other defensemen around that range?
Mattias Ekholm (NSH, 8.5)
Mikhail Sergachev (TB, 8.4)
Brenden Dillon (SJ/WSH, 7.3)
Dylan DeMelo (OTT/WPG, 7)
Seth Jones (CBJ, 6.9)
Rasmus Dahlin (BUF, 6.2)(added him so everyone could see where he ranked)
- The worst two Sabre defensemen?
Henri Jokiharju and Brandon Montour at -2.3 and -1.5 respectively
- Two of the bottom 4 numbers I could find, league wide:
P.K. Subban (NJ, -15.4)
Jacob Trouba (NYR, -12.9)

Adding Josh Manson since he's been a topic of conversation: 0.9

If he's 35, it's much more likely, especially when he's much closer to a 40 point player.

You are correct, as he does not turn 29 until October 7th.

That still means he'll be looking for a big pay day when he will be turning 31 before that season would begin.

if they wanted to package casey and something else to get a solid #2 LD, it would be a bold short term deal

but I would want the ducks to eat salary on henrique

Some defensemen of interest that are either RFA's or UFA's after this season, or after next season, based on the Above Replacement advanced stats alone:

- Ryan Pulock NYI RHD RFA 2020: Second best combined metric of 29.3 behind Ryan Ellis at 35.2. Projected next contract for the 25 year old is 5 years @ $6.5M-$6.7M. Would cost a ton in a trade, I imagine

- Matt Roy LAK RHD RFA 2021: Top 15 combined metric of 18.8 on a bad LA Kings team. Checking on other advanced stats on the 25 year old to get more context, but he's making all of $700K next year.

- Vince Dunn STL LHD RFA 2020: Right behind Roy with a combined metric of 18.4 with the Blues. 23 year old looks like a modern day defenseman. Projected next contract is 2 years @ $2.7M - 4 years @ $4.1M. Can't imagine the Blues would be letting him go.

- TJ Brodie CGY RHD/LHD UFA 2020: The soon to be 30 year old had a combined metric of 13.7, and if his projected next contract numbers are accurate (3 years @ $5M - 4 years @ $5.3M), he would be a solid addition.

- MacKenzie Weegar FLA RHD RFA 2020: 26 year old had a combined metric of 12.8 and his projected next contract is 2 years @ @2.6M - 4 years @ $3.9M. Another modern day puck moving defenseman.

- Vladislav Gavrikov CBJ LHD RFA 2020: 24 year old had a combined metric of 12.5 and his projected next contract range is 2 @ $2.2M - 4 @ $3.5M. Good size.

- Carson Soucy MIN LHD RFA 2020: 6'5 soon to be 26 year old had a combined metric of 9.4 and a projected next contract of 3 @ $1.7M. Not a point producer.

- Brenden Dillon SJ/WSH LHD UFA 2020: Big 29 year old had a combined metric of 7.2 with a projected next contract of 3 @ $3M - 4 @ $3.9M. You already know his attributes.

- Dylan DeMelo OTT/WPG RHD UFA 2020: The London, Ontario 27 year old had a combined metric of 7.0, with a projected next contract of 3 @ $2.9M - 4 @ $3M.

Some interesting names above, with a mix of knowns vs. unknowns.

I can't see them doing that with how cheap that organization has been.

Based on Brodie's projected next contract, I'd almost rather sign him and perhaps Dylan DeMelo as UFA's.

Or try and poach one of the RFA's from the list I just posted. Somebody like Carson Soucy, Vladislav Gavrikov, or Vince Dunn from the Blues.

Little off with Henrique, he had 135 over that span, he had 14pts with NJ before he got traded.

It's only one season, but the Rangers absolutely stole Adam Fox from the Hurricanes.

That deal is an example of an effective use of trading a pair of 2nd round picks.

Based on the following advanced metrics of Goals For per 60, Expected Goals For per 60, Corsi For per 60 (total shots towards the opponents net), Expected Goals Against per 60, Corsi Against per 60, the top 5 defensemen in the NHL offensively for the 19-20 season were:

1. Adam Fox
Tie 2. Dougie Hamilton and Morgan Reilly
Tie 4. Ryan Ellis and Alex Pietrangelo

The top 5 defensemen in the NHL defensively for the 19-20 season were:

1. Jonas Brodin (literally number 1 rank in both defensive categories)
2. Nick Holden (Vegas, and on a great contract, as they actually got him to take LESS on his new 2 year deal)
Tie 3. MacKenzie Weegar, Charlie McAvoy, Juuso Riikola (only played in 36 games), and Jake McCabe (yes, Jake McCabe)

The top 5 defensemen in the NHL overall for the 19-20 season were:

1. Adam Fox
2. Charlie McAvoy
3. Jared Spurgeon (for those wondering, Jonas Brodin is bereft of offense)
4. Dougie Hamilton
5. Matt Roy (LA Kings)

Thank you sir.

Still working through the advanced statistics for defensemen.

Trying to get all the variety of statistics quantified so I know what to use and what not to use.

I tackled the defensemen first due to the smaller number of them compared to forwards.

I'm working on an overall evaluation of defensemen considering multiple factors, including what I just posted above.
