Hopefully that falter ends soon. Failure of multiple GM's
- Buff36

Who brought on The Root!

I think The Root is more dignified than Skunk. Not to mention the R gives it the beginning of an anagram Reinhart Out Of Town

Yes, the GM "owns" all of that. So you're saying a GM should dictate what a coach should do?. The owner actually owns the team, should he dictate what the GM should do? Especially only a few months in?
- Michael Pachla

Sorry for the delay, I had big boy issues to deal with.

Mike, you are better than this. You just looking for a quarrel, lol?

In the normal day-to-day operations of the team, the Coach runs the lineup and the GM normally stays out of the way. They talk on a regular basis so nothing is a surprise, if run well. You know that.
On occasion the GM may have a need, bring up an AHL player to show a prospective trade partner what the kid looks like at that point; showcase a player in a prominent spot for the same reason, etc. If the GM isn't directing his coach to take a certain action for the business side of it, he ain't doing his job. You know this too.

If the GM gets out of bed on the wrong side and decides to have his superstar 1C play 4th line and kill penalties ...I'm sure the coach pushes back and questions WTF. If the GM is deciding who plays where with whom for nhow much and at what points in a game, then a Coach with any kind of sac will push back, some who have big balls will say FU. You know that too.

If the owner directs the GM to trade Player X for some stupid reason, I'm sure a competent GM pushes back...some who are secure in their skin would reply with a FU as well. You know that.

Not sure where the silly position was put forth?

he needs to pay the unemployed, instead of telling them to go out and become an essential worker

the families affected from this and lived paycheck to paycheck have to be flat broke by now

I'm sure in the coming weeks and months we're going to see a lot of foreclosuers... it's where the mortgage servicers make the most money, after all.

The fallout from this is going to be a poop show.

Gerbe certainly says some silly poop sometimes, but I don't think this statement is at all accurate. He's been a little panicky and at times over the top with his predictions/expectations of doom and gloom, but he's never once come across as rooting for the deaths of others.
- Ratsreign

Eh, just a month ago anyone that wasn’t agreeing with him he was telling them he hoped their family members got the virus. Maybe he wasn’t rooting for their deaths but wishing people got the virus was no better

I know individuals who were listed as COVID deaths. One was 80+ with several co-morbidity and another was a 90+ year old who had been very sick for the last two years. Both of their doctors listed COVID as the cause of death. Two individuals who were never going to get better. They contracted the disease and passed.

COVID listed deaths BUT they were on their last leg prior to catching the virus.

- TC4145

Thank you for being rational with this post.
I'll have to do some research , but from what I remember, the death rate really spikes around 70sh, and gets into mid-teens around 80, maybe 85.
Yes, they are people too and they count equally. Yet, with these existing health conditions, they are not representative of the vast majority of the population.

I guess the point is that the mortality rate is probably overblown by some factor in that these pre-compromissed individuals didn't take much to push them over the edge. Still sad, but it is a context that is often overlooked in discussions.

So is Sobotka going to be healthy for sabres playoff series against the Leafs? I'd like to see him play some games before we sign him to a long term extension

I'm not good with stats, but the thing that is more interesting to me is that old age is the best known "co-morbidity" that makes COVID more deadly. But among the lesser recognized comorbidities are both obesity and diabetes. 10% of the US population is diabetic. According to research done by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, it is estimated that around 40% of Americans are considered obese, and 18% are considered severely obese as of 2019.

I don't know how those unhealty factors are working driving the mortality rates, but I have a hard time thinking its as simple as saying "it's really only old folks we need to worry about."

It's definitely become much more of a political debate than it should be, but to say people are rooting for more people to die is more than just a little harsh. However, a better example is the way people look at Sweden's model. If you're on the left, it's "just you wait, there's going to be a catastrophe". It never came, and their curve appears to have flattened at a level with just about everyone else. If you're on the right, you fail to account for the amount of voluntary social distancing that is being done there. Schools were closed, but commerce was not. People who are considered most vulnerable have been voluntarily quarantining themselves, and those who are able to work from home have mostly done so. That's not something Americans, especially those of the boomer generation are willing to do.
- buffalofan19

Hmmmmmm.
Funny, I don't recall seeing the mob in Buffalo on St Patty's Day as being highly of Boomer's age, nor the beaches in Cali, or at Fat Tuesday in NO.
Another in the Ageism category.

So you're saying that Botts needs to see what Reinhart does away from Jack to...know what he's got in him?...strengthen his side for negotiations?...satisfy us here on hockey buzz?

If he dont know him by now, he will never, never, never know him. Ooooooo.

As long as we're going there we could revisit last night's comments about the Jewish and the Muslims. Somehow that dry tinder never caught a spark.

Well, he fvcked up Skinner's contract by not having the facts to negotiate a less outlandish contract AVV and Term.
So, let's make the same mistake with Sam AND Olofsson.

Yes, I am saying that he could have the cold hard facts in front of him to slide accccrosttt the table, to the Agent, or gidforbid the Arbitrator. For both he can just raise his eyebrows and twittle his thumbs when the Agent throws out the factual figures without any sort of counter argument.
Should work out great. Good job Botts
Or since the Coach makes those decisions, good job Ralph.

I read it as him, however poorly worded (or even childish) it may have been, wondering if people would feel the same as they did if their family member fell sick from it. But I was reading as a neutral observer and not as a participant in the spat.
