Yes based off an extrapolation. Cuomo was crying because he needed 40,000 ventilators and a hospital ship because of all the “projected” sick based off numbers. Didn’t need anything he was crying about.

There is no chance that all the things everybody did, i.e. staying at home, wearing masks, etc., impacted the numbers being lower than the worst case estimations?

Does that mean all those actions should not have taken place because the impact was overblown?

What makes you think that regarding the bolded above?

I agree with the more people having it without having any discernible symptoms aspect.

I think he’s wrong. Drs are saying it’s actually way MORE contagious then first thought but also way less deadly.

All those models had all this factored in 🙄🙄. Everyone was already on lockdown when he said we needed all this. He panicked and looks dumb now.

yup, and I expect a secondary spike with these attempts to re-open way too early

my gut says the reason they are rushing to open up is to avoid paying unemployment

It's totally absent of reality, and no coach would want the coaching job under a GM who is mandating the coach play certain players in which situations.

I'm a little dumbfounded that Adam Henrique was suggested as a stop gap 2C for the team, yet many poo-pooed the idea of trading for Trocheck, saying they want to see the Sabres do better.

Henrique, 30, 4 years x $5.8m, ~0.568 PPG. 47.2% FO% ~49% Corsi with ~48.8% OzS
Trocheck, 26, 2 years x $4.75m, ~0.665 PPG. 51.2% FO% ~52% Corsi with ~49.6% OzS

The logic escapes me.

- IonSabres

I was one that didn't want Trocheck for what they would have wanted for him, but I really don't recall too many people pining for Henrique. One guy I've been advocating for is Bonino, so I thought I would compare his numbers as well:
Bonino, 32, 1 year x $4.1m, ~0.520 PPG. 52.6% FO%
~50.4% Corsi with ~36.7% OzS

Adding in that the cost to acquire him should be quite a bit less, I feel Bonino would be an ideal "stop gap" rather than trading for one of the other two guys. Looking out two years, does anyone think we should be paying $5-6m for a 3C for several more years?

Well. We don't know that do we?
Jeez, I wonder if the team might have been able to demonstrate that as fact by playing Sam away from Eichel after they poop the bed in December.
Seems like a lost opportunity.
It's ok though, should be inconsequential...Evolving Hockey only projects his contract at 8 x $8.7m...I mean, it's not like it is a big, long commitment.

- IonSabres

Good post ion

Doesn't make sense that the Sabres wouldn't look at Sam without eichel, "driving" his own line from the 2rw or another opportunity to evaluate Sam's center play?

I guess it's a soup sandwich again. 🙉

I get confused on this board.

Do you actually believe this?

A few things on Bonino.

I agree that he would be a very good get, but his contract only has one more year remaining, and Cozens plus this year's pick will need more than this coming season to be fully ready and realized as players. They would need to extend Bonino after this season, and I have no idea what that will look like.

On that topic, Henrique's contract goes for 4 more years. Ideally, it would go for 3 more.

That said, even if Cozens goes crazy over the course of his ELC at the NHL level, resulting in a massive deal off his ELC, you can deal with it for the final year of Henrique's deal.

Finally, I have read that Nashville has no intention of dealing Bonino, and even if they did, it seems the cost to trade for him will be higher than Henrique.

Those are all the reasons I believe Henrique is more realistic than Bonino as a trade target.

It's not about pining for Henrique, it's the ideal that trading for him is much more of a possibility.

Once this is all done we will see it was less contagious then people thought, more people had it with no symptoms and the survival rate is 99.5-99.9%. Crazy we shut world down for it but now we know.

And it’s why everything is starting to open up now. Be smart, don’t get close to too many people and the world will go on like it always has after every scare.

- Alex the Great

most will agree that it's a highly contagious virus...if left unchecked it would have done some damage in the U.S. in terms of the virus itself as well as the strain on hospitals, staff and ppe nationwide

The entire point of the shutdown was to try and not overrun the healthcare workers, hospitals, etc., right?

It means that you can't justify making those decisions, which were all extrapolated projections based on theory, and then dismiss the extrapolating of actual data when it comes to decisions to lift them without being intellectually dishonest.

Flatten the curve related to slowing down infection so hospitals can handle it. We did it. And had the capability to handle way more. Way more prepared then other countries and already started prepping for when economy opens there will be more exposure.

Despite people hating on US healthcare system we were way better off then some countries with “better” supposed healthcare

I am not dismissing it at all. I am saying it means things can be opened, but cautiously and with guidelines in place for the near future. That is all.

Sure did as people were both told to stay away and many that would normally be going stayed away due to being scared of potentially being infected if they went to the hospital.

Also, some hospitals have been laying off staff for the past month or more.

They usually are, and frequently, but it is the coach that makes the final decision.
