Patrick was a consensus top-2 pick. Just like Reinhart
- Michael Pachla

You're correct it was the Canadian media pumping him up ..

But I wouldn't mind buffalo trading Casey for him tbh

Man, I have really stirred the pot today with the Sam lovers and I wonder why there are so many. The devotion is cute though
- GilPerreault11

I am not a sam lover.

In fact, I advocated for trading him to land Domi earlier in the day.

Where I have a problem is blaming him for the current status of the Sabres. He was drafted 6 years ago and moved to wing 5 years ago due to forces out of his control.

Since then, he has consistently produced offense.

Blame the GM who hasn't addressed the position in 2 years

Reinhart sucks, should never have been drafted.
- IonSabres

He was rated top-2 at the draft.

He was moved from center to wing because his two stints at the position, albeit brief, were an absolute disaster. If we're considering not being good enough to play the position at the NHL level synonymous with "forces beyond his control", then yes, you are correct.

If Reinhart could play his cerebral 2nd line game why would they give up those assets to get another 2nd line center to do the same. What would they do with three top centers? Would Reinhart's agent let him play wing if he could? He wouldn't have signed that crappy bridge deal and it's all about the money.
- GilPerreault11

The same thing the Penguins did with Crosby, Malkin, and Staal?

I'm with Flacco on this one. Neither should be considered acceptable.
- buffalofan19

The post-tank years have left us arguing as to whether Buffalo' second and third best forwards, possibly skaters, should be on the team. It's insane.

The first time was for 9 games as a rookie, and then he was sent to juniors.

Ar the end of the season, Eichel and ROR were brought aboard. He was destined to be a winger after that. The organization filled a desperate RW need by moving Reinhart there. Gionta was the next best candidate

Three last place finishes, no playoffs for nine years, a season high of 35 wins and 81 points post-tank and years of dysfunction.

Did I miss anything?

- Michael Pachla

Idk but we can relish in watching those great Sabres teams that didn’t win anything either.

I care about Cups, not the playoffs.

If we were in the the mediocre position of the Montreals and Minnesotas of the world, do you honestly think the debate about the guys the Sabres drafted at 18-22 every year would be any different?

Ahhhh.
Revisionist history.
ROR was brought in to protect Jack from assuming 1C duties.
It is possible Jack could have lost his way being so young and having to play 1C.
ROR also taught Sam the NHL game by mentoring him and conducting the ROR Practices ... which Sam said were important to him.

Bringing ROR in had benefits, he paid too much.

- IonSabres

Ion, I know why he was brought in, still don't think it was the right move at that time, but who am I to say. Think it was just a move that was a couple years to early.

So is having Josh Allen ok because you didn’t end up with Rosen ?

Mean while the Bills traded away a SuperBowl MVP the year before and passed on this years NFL MVP ?

If you look at life that way then sure, I guess life is good.

Who's #3?

Also, you would not be in favor of using Sam in a trade for a solid 2C?

Why reinhart became a winger:

Reason number 1:

Eichel and ROR down the middle

Reason number 2:

The best RWs on this team over the past 5 years not named Sam Reinhart were Gionta, Pominville and Okposo

No instead it would be, we lack the elite talent to put us over the top.

By tanking we got 2.

Now build the medicore team around them and watch them make it great.
