That's all well and good, but it does very little to nothing regarding the quality of the team for next year.

They need a quality NHL center ASAP.

No more waiting and hoping one of the prospects can become that, for the 3rd year in a row.

- kingcong39

He said Botts was not able to acquire a good Center, I mentioned he may have in Cozens and whomever we pick this year.

Now yes in terms of short term needs, we have a need at Center.

All I’m saying is I like our chances that we have filled the void long term behind Eichel with Cozens.

I don't think risto is the problem

I agree with those that say we don't need montour and risto so one needs to go

on the skunk, they are more pissed at where he was drafted, then what he is

I mean how many years has girgens got a pass, or the likes of staff, paille, kalinin

reinhart is a much better player then any of them

- navinrjohnson

Raise hand - I'm more pissed about who he is. By the way Montour and Risto aren't the same player as many contend. One has strength, big body, aggressive, has hands, skates; the other a nice skater, has hands can play both sides.

Girgensons is a whipping boy for a lot of us here, I don't know a single person who likes Stafford or liked him or thought he was any kind of good, Kalinin was a joke and I never hear his name mentioned.

Paille was okay but he was no Dumont.

You're reaching very far with these names. No one talks about them or has good memories of them.

He had a really solid year paired with Numminen in 2006

It's not the first one, the second one might be a winger or realistically should start at 3C, and the 2020 pick will be 18 years old. It shouldn't be any one of those three options
- jcragcrumple

No it shouldn't, it should have been Rhino, but that didn't work out. I hope he goes after one with the consideration that whether he plays 2C or 3C down the road the production does falter either way.

No one talking about the most likely playoff proposal that has the Sabres IN when the NHL starts back up???

Hate to say it folks, those who are trading Reinhart...

Unless you're taking back a winger in return, you're opening a hole to fill one. We can't rob peter to pay paul here. I'd hope that Botts has Samson off the table completely, unless he's going for this 8x8 nonsense.

- RhinoFan

We already have one winger who needs Eichel to carry his lunch bucket for 9 mil, signing another for a big amount for too many years instead of putting together a package to get a #2 center who can carry his lunch is getting a Peter and saying screw you Paul.

Reinhart was drafted 6 years ago and has played around 50 games at center. Are you really blaming him for the current state of the roster?

He formed a very dynamic line with ROR, as well, and when given the opportunity showed that he could drive play. But they haven't used him to drive play, and they haven't had more than one decent center in two years, so EVERYBODY on the Sabres suck because they only play well with Jack.

If you read carefully my one post yes. If he could play center they wouldn't have had to trade for ROR the next year as their #2, Compher would be their #3,Nikita Zadorov would be a D or he or Risto could have been traded for a wing. He is the root of the Sabres disaster

If we're blaming sabres 1st round draftpicks for not being a 2C, we should also blame Freakarenko, Latvian Larry, Casey Mittelstadt and Tyler Ennis. At least Reinhart is more useful than them.

I'm going to leave before someone inevitably tries to tell me Latvian larry is more useful than Reinhart

It's up to Botterill to solve this problem, or at the very least, stop making it worse. It's year 4 now. Stop being a poopty GM

Well, actually as history goes, Rhino played a grand total of 9 games the season before the Sabres drafted Jack Eichel, AND traded for Ryan O'Reilly. At the time if the trade, GMTM was hell b.v ent for leather to acquire a solid 2 way center to "protect" his rookie Centers. ROR was 1C that season and beyond until Jack was ready to take that slot over.

The Sabres tank strategy focused on getting stronger down the middle so they go and draft Reinhart as a center who can't play center. That (frank)ed up the initial tank, he (frank)ed up the initial tank. Wings are nice, but centers drive lines, so they have to go into their prospect pool to get ROR. Bummer.

none of them were close to first line players

skunk has been a top 50 winger in the nhl for the last 2 and a half seasons

which equates to a first line winger as there are only 31 teams and 2 wingers on the top line

Most 2nd overalls can play right away but not ours and he couldn't play his position so they had to get a true #2. He showed it in development camp, preseason and the 9 games.

That's a total ret con of what happened.

The Sabres had Eichel and ROR down the middle, and rather than play - I dont know, Brian Gionta - at 1RW, they moved Reinhart to wing rather than play him in limited minutes at center.

So he became a winger

Then the Sabres traded ROR and Reinhart was a winger and they had no plan of what to do

Stop blaming Reinhart for the continual ineptitude of the Sabres

It’s all of the above, we suck at drafting.

Sure Reinhart is a good hockey player, but at 2OA you should get an elite hockey player, like how the Oilers did one pick after.
