Life needs to go on. People need to get back to work. There are risks, absolutely, but IMO, and many others, the risks are diminishing by the day, week, and months that go by. We can't continue much longer under quarantine. Just like the projected effects/deaths from Covid were very inflated, so will be the effects of opening up businesses. Of course, Covid will be around longer then the quarantine, but ut won't be nearly as bad as some are saying.
People actually believe there will ever be a time when there is NO risk from Covid?
Waiting a year until anti body tests, vaccines are widely available is the only way to go?
Not saying you feel that way - rrentz
Honest question cause I don’t want to restart the fights we had before but how do you assess cost/benefit when there is no agreement on the dangers (cost), those dangers aren’t equally shared and obviously some stand to gain way more than others. Certainly in the case of the NHL players and owners will be kept safest and will earn the most. |

How can anyone take you seriously after that bleach comment? - JLO961
He also thinks that an entrepreneur who voted for Trump simply because he promised to cut taxes and regulations (which he did) is an example of a psycho with no morals. |

I know right? You did it and you're totally fine. I mean, what's a slight bit of brain damage between friends! I can't wait to see what you do when you find out that according to Trump, Lorena Bobbit had the cure the whole time. - James_Tanner
You couldn’t help yourself by injecting politics into this discussion, could you Tanner? Frankly, the line, “I’m not a doctor, I don’t know” was the most accurate thing you’ve ever said on here. |

Here is the fundamental truth and reality that we have to realize and are faced with. The economy is going to start to be opened up but we are doing so before it is really safe to do so. They have no choice. Same with hockey, they may find a way to play but they really shouldn't be. - MJL
Yup the big 3 auto-makers are returning in the next 2 weeks or so. They’ve been retrofitting their factories for social distance measures and will definitely not be operating full tilt. Should they stay shut, probably but it’s far from the thousands employed in one plant that doing so effects. It’s well into the millions that make up a majority of the industrial sector. Sure the big 3 will survive but will companies all that are 3/4 down the chain of supply? A lot of tool and die shops went belly up in 2009 when they were at least bringing in 30% of their expected income compared to the nearly zero that’s coming in now. |

Me either. As far as NHL is concerned, like you said, if plan goes as planned, i don't see anyone getting sick, and if any do, they will be well taken care of.
The rest of the country will open businesses nup slowly, and precautions will be out in place, and over time, those restrictions will be eased up if all goes well. Ex. Restaurants/stores will only be allowed to have a certain # of people at a time, etc.
Honestly, many people will simply go to work and go home. The public will be very wary about resuming their "normal" lives anytime soon. Even if business was open fully tomorrow, it wouldn't be like they'd be making what they were before Covid.
Cost/benefit will lie with each of us, regardless of what the powers at be decide |

Well, they’re not volunteering that information. My point is why inflate the numbers? Do you know putting in a stint is an elective procedure? Hospitals aren’t doing those procedures. So a guy has a heart attack and dies because he didn’t have the stint put in and oh, he just happened to have Covid-19.
Just not buying shutting down an economy based on bad numbers. - arh777
No one is inflating the numbers. This is simply how you count deaths during a pandemic. It's the same in every country (perhaps China excluded). Here in Denmark the news are careful to always call it Covid-19 related deaths. |

Over/under on any players saying they won't play.....I'll take the under . I bet No player will say that - rrentz
I really don’t know to be honest. But these players are people, don’t be shocked when fear is larger than a desire to play for some |

Well, then, every country inflates the deaths caused during a pandemic by how they count them. Not saying it's a conspiracy, but deaths rates are much higher then actual deaths caused by pandemics |

But society doesn’t work like that. If it’s considered unsafe (on balance) for society, then you don’t go to work. It’s the same concept as drinking and driving. The decision comes down to a cost/benefit decision like you said. That decision is in the hands of the governments we elect who take both medical and economic advice. |

But how else would you count it? How do you know if the heart attack was coursed by Covid-19 or the person just happened to have Covid-19? If the number relied on a subjective evaluation, then you couldn't compare numbers from different countries or regions. |

I understand, but the death counts are higher because saying Covid caused death is safer then saying it didn't when inany cases it will never be known |

WTF are you talking about. When this country reopens, people will have to make their own decisions about what want/need to do.
I guess you think everyone should stay home indefinitely until there is a 100% guarantee that no one will ever get infected? |

That’s a stupid statement Tanner! Trumps following the guy who received 3.7 million from Obama and took it to Wuhan where George Soros and Bill Gates screwed the pooch!
If he doesn’t follow the scientists or doctors, Pelosi Impeaches him again.
This whole process has been weaponized! |

I agree that govt, local and state and federal Ultimately have the say, but that will be done, for the most part on their own severity not the virus.
Once opened, people will have to decide how much they go out |

I see both viewpoints on this. I will say though it definitely become a need for those that can’t work from home. Those that were just breaking even before this won’t be able to be out of work for more than a couple of months before going broke or worse. |

Yup, and the govt can't afford to give any more $.
People have to to back to work. There's no way around it. No matter who is in charge, what decisions have or will be made change that fact. No govt can take care of it's citizens indefinitely or sufficiently enough to mitigate the food that needs to be bought and bills that need to be paid. Once mortgages and loans start to default our problems will multiply exponentially. That will start occurring in June/July if businesses aren't opened |

While the big 3 auto-makers are set to do a soft open in the next 2 weeks I don’t think you will start seeing the grander scope of businesses start to open until the end of June/early July. We can drag a lot of the retail/food industry out thanks to online shopping and take out and jobs that can be done from home will continue to be done so. It’s the lower end earners in service, industrial, and construction will be the hardest hit the longer this drags out. I work in manufacturing as a skilled tradesman so given what I’ve saved over time I’ll be fine to be out of a job until end of the year before things start getting tight but a hand labour guy I talked to only had $100 in spending money after each paycheque before this. And even with gov’t help here in Canada you are basically losing 3 days pay of a two week paycheque.
I don’t know what to say bout service as most of that’s done by in-person contact, I would guess those jobs will likely be the last to open with the exception of chiropractic, Dental, and optometry |
