Plus he would beat the crap out of Tom Wilson.

IIRC he beat the crap out of Scott Stevens before too.

Scott Stevens is a lot tougher than Wilson in my opinion. Wilson is a punk.

That was kind of my point, tho. You don't need to be able to kick a guy's ass to throw an elbow at his face when he's not looking.... like a punk.

Bill, great write up on Peter Zezel. He may be in the top 10 Flyers fan favorites of all time. That, of course, is subjective but it may be a fun exercise to put a list together.

BTW... what ever happened to the simulated Flyers regional team tournament?

I will pick it back up again -- still have one round robin game and the playoffs to go -- but I need to find a better voting system. There were too many repeat votes and messed up blog spacing from the free poll site and not enough message board votes.

That doesn't have any bearing on how Lindros wold translate to today's game in my opinion. Back when he played you could legally throw a shoulder on a check into his face.

Young 88 skated around with his head down like nobody could hurt him. It was his fatal flaw, and it would hurt him today just as badly as it hurt him in the 90/00's.

On pure gifts he would still be one of the top-10 players in the league today, but people are talking here like he'd just easily dominate the game. People forget how effective the Wings were in stopping the LOD in the 97 Finals by beating them w/ stick defense and anticipation. 88 was in his prime and Lidstrom/Murphy completely took him out of his element. I think there are a lot more teams/d-pairs that would be capable of doing that to him today.

He'd definitely have to evolve into a more patient, cerebral, system-focused player to succeed.

Hence my comment that it was legal to hit a guy in the head with a shoulder. Pointing out your comment of Wilson throwing an elbow in his face does not make it more dangerous for Lindros in today's game.

He would absolutely be a dominant player in today's game, no doubt. The coaching is different today defensively as well as offensively. Hockey is a game of adjustments like any sport. The Flyers didn't adjust to the Red Wings tactics.
