LOL at Brooks. Still bitter over losing the 2005 draft lottery. If Crosby has gone to the Rangers then of course it would have been legitimate. But since he went someplace else of course there is a conspiracy.

Two times in 20 yrs the Pens got the first pick when it turned out the best player in the world ws the overall consensus 1st to be picked, a generational talent.

Even though it was through a trade, don't forget their other #1 was Fluery a borderline HOF.

I thought Brooks view on restarting the season was overly negative.

if you think sports should not return until there is a test for everyone, you won’t be seeing the NHL, or any other sports until who knows when. It certainly won’t be this year. You tell that to the people directly involved making a living from pro sports. It’s not just about players and owners. Although no games, no pay. Not every player is making 25 mil a year.

This notion that professional sports is not vital to the US economy and should take a back seat to other entities is absurd. MLB itself is a 10 billion dollar mega business

I don’t know the answer to this dilemma, but the idea of not playing until such time as this virus is completely wiped out or 100% controlled is just not practical.

I hope and pray someone has an answer, and it better be soon. Society is being stretched as far as it can go.

Here is what I know, My wife is an Assistant Nurse Manager and she is involved in a lot of these life and death decisions having a group of people come together before there is some kind of containment is (frank)ING stupid. its not just players. It's coaches, training staff, equipment staff. Then factor in players' families and all the people they come into contact with and their essential staff's families.

Is it pessimistic sure but is it worth another wave of this bullpoop?

Four drafts in a row they picked #1, #2, #1, #2 and got Fleury, Malkin, Crosby, and J. Staal in that order

Anybody have a sense if people are going to be heading back to rinks when this is done? This pandemic has been a lot less traumatic here than for NY’ers and I really wonder how many people will want to crowd into places like MSG, even by the fall. Thoughts?

Not as far as I am aware of, but I have used the line a lot, especially related to blog comments here and especially on Twitter.

Will see if i can find the link, but there was a informal study in a NY paper that was posted recently where generic view was no, people would not be rushing back.

Thanks for that. Sure makes sense to me. Was looking at some stuff pulled from Morgan Stanley that talks about no significant numbers of people returning to work without a vaccine which makes next season a real question.

Also, SI talking about difficulty in playing in empty stadiums (more in NFL context).

But I guess Ivanka is on the case now so...

If one of those picks was malkin...he was actually a second overall pick.

I’d suspect MSG is closed til September at the earliest. But these North Dakota type states could definitely hold live hockey game because they’re all in butt (frank) nowhere but people attending games for this paused season if/when they resume, isn’t happening. I mean you could have everyone given a mask and gloves to get in the door, but it all seems outlandish to even play at this point. As a ranger fan I just assume get to the draft, and start the march to the Stanley cup next season when that starts

I agree that playing out in Dagwood somewhere is the only possible way to get playoffs in. Even then, I doubt they can pull it off. Aren’t some players in Europe still? It’s going to be a real horror show if they lose all or half of next season. You’d have to imagine some franchises might go under.

They might as well just award this year’s Cup to the Leafs. Pretty obvious they were going to sweep through the playoffs.

Sign Staal to a 1 year extension.
Lindgren exempt, Fox exempt, Trouba’s contract (NTC), ADA protected, Smith will be off the books. If Hajek is exempt or we protect him, we have no one to expose. Staal could be a great 7th dman for the extra year and no way Seattle takes him.
