Do you think that was one of the reasons Stan decided Joki was traceable?
- LAHawk

I think it comes down to the plethora of young defenseman we have. Jokiharju became expendable.

Did not like to see the Joker go ,but I think Nylander may be ok .Not as fast out of the blocks as his brother .Think that had more to do with his time in the Sh-t show in Buffalo . Playing top 6 minutes, and time on the PP he will come around .

Probably true. There seem to be a few possible reasons. If the goal was to clear a path for Mitchell, then Jokiharju was likely the best candidate (as far as RHD) to get a good asset back in return.

Seabrook wouldn't net much at all given his albatross contract. Murphy could garner a decent return but it was best to retain him for his stabliizing defensive presence while on an affordable deal with term as he's starting to enter his prime.

Also, there were those rumors of Jokiharju having a sour attitude about feedback from the organization on how to improve his defense which may have been related directly or indirectly to his demotion to Rockford last season.

Watching the replay of Game 1 of the 2010 Finals. Man what a powerhouse of team that was. Those were good times!
- BGKarras

I'm about to do the same.

I'm going to watch the entire 2010 playoffs and have some blogs related to them on here.

Excited to just watch hockey again... even if they are re-runs.

Odd thing on Mitchell, I know Powers says he signing and the Sun Times had a headline that he is reportedly signing but, he's still not listed on Capfriendly. Teply is.

I wonder if this is an "intent to sign" to make the cap $ work somehow? Didn't another team a few weeks ago sign a prospect where he's on the team but not on the team?

Why does nobody get that my username is another movie reference? Hasn’t anyone seen Tropic Thunder ffs?!?

And seriously what did I do to offend you so badly? Other than passionately post statements on a hockey blog about the Chicago Blackhawks? Did i screw ur ex gf or something right after you guys broke up? Tell me man...what is it? Are u gonna be okay?

- SimpleJack

Been a while since I've seen it but loved that movie...especially the opening sequence where they show trailers from other fictional movies that the characters of BS, JB and RD Jr are in.

I say keep in, I kinda like it.
- DarthKane

I don't get the hate for it.

As many others have said, it'll be replaced with something.

a day later, everyone will be female doging about the new one, and wanting them to bring CD back.

Cut out the middle man and just leave it.

Sounds like he signed and let it told close friends and family... then news leaked out slowly from there.

Hawks probably want to announce it on Monday after the long weekend.

There's no issue with the cap as he can only make a max 925k (plus scheduled bonuses).

Scott Perunovich (STL) was the prospect that has a stipulation in his contract apparently based on if the season started back up and if NCAA players are allowes to participate. He is still officially signed and on CapFriendly.

Think the Hawks official announcement is coming soon for Mitchell - which will probably have the same asterisk in his contract as Perunovich.

That's my theory anyway.

I think it has to do with the fact that the current season is in suspension. If this season is started up again, Mitchell's ELC begins this season. If the rest of this season is cancelled, his ELC starts next season. The contract details won't be disclosed until they determine when the contract starts. IMO.

I feel that Mitchell is going to be very good, but just how soon is what we guestimate today.

I feel that it is not expecting too much to have a solid foundation within two years: Mitchell, Boqvist, Carlsson and perhaps Beaudin playing well too.

You can figure on probably two veterans as well. You have any more kids pushing hard for NHL jobs and you can see 5hem right here in Rockford. The next wave - the dmen in Rockford now and those arriving in the fall 2020, they may marinate for a while. If Galvas comes over then you may have a dark horse in him to be a very solid second or third pair guy. What Bowman ought to have in mind, eventually he can craft his tailor made defense out of an abundance of riches. Adding a bottom pair or second pair whom is a body checker would be ideal

He will be the best pro out of all the young Dmen in the system

This is just my opinion but i really think it's all about confidence with Nylander. You could see him palying better the last four games or so playing with skilled players and he was producing I hope they leave him there next year.

The Hawks are likely waiting to make the announcement, given the sad news about Colby Cave it probably wasn't the most appropriate day to announce a big signing.

While I'm still not a fan of the deal I don't think Nylander had a poor rookie season and I agree with your comment about this confidence. He had 5 points in his last 5 games.

Nylander was 9th in rookie scoring, that's not too bad at all. Yes, there is room for improvement in his game but that's to be expected. The club has been patient with Nylander's development, hopefully that patience pays off.

Hey TC watching reruns is definitely filling a void. Especially when it's a team we all wish we currently had. Happy Easter to everyone take care and be safe.

At what point do we stop calling Nylander a rookie? He has 4 pro seasons on his resume.

Like you I'm optimistic that he will eventually get it and start playing consistently as a good young pro. The difficulty for the team is too many small, non physical skill forwards. Dressing Kane, Debrincat and Nylander every night may be one more than an NHL can win with.

Next season, technically he was still a rookie in 19/20.

The first two times he played in the NHL probably should not have happened in Buffalo. He was only 21 beginning this last season. He was definitely a rookie last year.

Sounds like Max Shalunov is intending to come over to the NHL as per @BabayezShumi.

Sounds like we will finally see Shalunov in a Hawks sweater... at least in training camp.

Whether he makes the team is another thing.

If a 24 yo Kubalik can be considered a rookie, there’s no reason a now 22 yo Nylander can’t, especially since last season was the only one where he spent more than a handful of games in the NHL.

And to Darth’s point, technically, he was a rookie.

On your second point, I have no idea. Nylander may never be a big hitter but he’s not small and as long as he embraces contact and engages I think they could live with that.

Would be great if he showed he could stick at this level but like you, have doubts.

He’s supposed to have some skill, so realistically wouldn’t he have to play somewhere in the top 9 in order to click here?

Maybe the Hawks want to announce the Mitchell and Shalunov signings together (when both officially sign).

They'll announce the sign and trade to New York for Lundqvist at the same time.
