This is more about how the systems established under slavery: accounting, manage
- Canada Cup

Yeah, the doc touches on all this stuff. There’s so many more elements than just the cotton trade in America. The Europeans did all sorts of crazy stuff. 90% of all slaves from Africa, went to Brazil.

Yep, our system was built on slavery. I was more intrigued about the story of how it started, and the uprisings in the Caribbean, S.Amercia.. The Europeans built their economies on slaves, and fought over it etc.. Then they invaded Africa and built slave armies.. The US was particularly cruel after Britain Abolished slavery.

Are you trying to break the internet? I'm not even going to touch that one.

I will say this though. An "open face" sandwich is not a (frank)ing sandwich. Unless you are talking about cutting the face off an animal and putting it between TWO pieces of bread.

They were incredibly sophisticated operations and the whole system just moved north and the factory owners were able to apply many of the same techniques

Have you looked at the 1619 project by the NYT? Amazing collection of essays. I think you’d especially enjoy “If want to understand the brutality of capitalism, you have to start on the plantation.”

I knuckled under a week ago and bought a Washington Post subscription.

Then a couple of days later, my wife bought Press Reader, which is fantastic.

But I still don't have the NY Times, and damn, I may just have to pay for that one, too.

It's the wild, wacky conundrum of the American working class:

They will fight to the death for their right to be exploited.

Mirtle has a poll out right now on if you would want hockey to come back in August or wait till next season...

Right now it’s 56-44 in favour of hockey this year.

That seems crazy, if it’s at all possible I don’t know how you wouldn’t want hockey back this year.

If it's not until August, I'll take a pass.

The "first round" of the playoffs would be poop - guys won't have been together for 3-4 months.

What are you going to do - have a 3-game first round? A 3-game 2nd round?

Seven game series require two weeks.

I'd rather they scrap the season and get in a full 2020-21 season - and hell, I think that's being optimistic.

Start it back up in late July / early August and then delay the season to December and run a roughly 60 game or so regular season. Thoughts?

Hey RJ:

In answer to a previous question you asked me, MLSEL gave everyone the option to postpone 1st payment for 2020-21 to the first week of May.

Still absolutely no communication whatsoever on what will happen with the $ for the cancelled regular season games, although in their defence, I guess those games haven't officially been cancelled yet.

Summer hockey will only make sense if they hold it in a select few cities, without fans in the audience.

Otherwise, the ice will be terrible in places like Arizona and Tampa.

There would be quite a lot of moving parts. Our ice is embarrassingly bad once it hits May. It can be pretty bad in April too if it gets warm and or humid enough.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I'll admit that I'm fully bias towards wanting to see them finish these playoffs somehow. Our team's biological clock is ticking and we need to try and win one more ASAP. Plus, I don't care what anyone says about a curse, you'd take going into the playoffs as the president's trophy winner 10 out of 10 times.
