Socialist policies that serve to kill any individual motivation because the government will take care of you. It's great to help our people when they are struggling, but in reality many become motivated NOT to better themselves because they don't want to lose the free money from the government. I'll never forget, in the early 90s when things were bad, I had to go apply for WIC for my infant son. I actually heard this said from one young mother to another there in the waiting room, "Girl, don't you know that if you have another baby you'll get a bigger check?"
Doesn't have to be full on communism to be no bueno.

Yes, there are a lot of people who are like that. However, Social Security, Medicare and unemployment insurance are social programs that benefit people who worked for those entitlements. They are forms of socialism. Welfare is as well.

What is a lot? Is 500 a lot? 5K?

Compared to the whole of a population in an area, I wouldn't consider any of those numbers to be a lot.

Is the bolded the overwhelming norm, just the norm, an infrequent occurrence, or an incredibly rare occurrence?

People tell stories like that without knowing how many people are taking that approach.

If it's very few, it's a minor concern.

The data should drive how real a problem that is, and of course, the vast amount of nuance that goes along with it.

- kingcong39

I think it's probably not the norm, but is more common than we would hope to believe. The lady learned that line of thinking from somewhere.

Without data to back it up, I have no idea how common or uncommon it may be happening.

Let's put it this way, it's not the first time i heard something like that. Perhaps my wording could've been different. From what I've heard and read throughout the years, it seems as if there's a lot of that happening.

It's not the first time I've heard it either, but I want data to drive ideas, not stories.

I think the key phrase is "people who worked for those entitlements", you pay in before you can take out. I'm talking about those for who it becomes a way of life to take a free ride, instead of a temporary way through a tough time in their life.

Should be easy to identify the initial group by comparing salary earned to date versus benefits received to date, and then narrow from there.

I get it. My original point was that people equate socialism with Communism and it's not true. Democratic Socialism is in place but it flies in the face of "free market" until a gov't bailout is needed. Then the "free market" is put on hold because if it was truly free, at a time like this or dating back to the financial crisis, it would collapse.

I've been paying in since I was 15. I've been on unemployment once other than this.

There's also plenty of people like WetBandit who have serious issues that don't allow him to work.

My data approach is always to start with the widest spread of data, and then narrow from there.

It's the best way I've found to uncover anomaly scenarios, and often ways systems and programs are configured that are incorrect and/or ineffective.

As with everything else, the answer is most likely somewhere in the middle. That's why this extreme right or left political bs plaguing our country has to change, the answers are somewhere in the middle.

If I had access to that data, God knows I have the time to break it down. We don't, so it's a mute point in here. Now, the original point was that socialism exists within this country we call 'Murica, and it's a good thing

It seems like many people don't like nuanced discussions due to the larger amount of time and effort that must go into those discussions.

he said people under 24 do not get the virus and is entertaining opening schools back up before may 1st

our state is still getting 1400 new cases a day and not suppose to peak until last week in april

he also said he has 200 more people to cross train for unemployment if needed, and people have not got through on the phones in over 3 weeks

he also said when asked about florida unemployment at a 275 per week max, said they are getting close to 900 a week and will be fine

of course they will if/when they get it but that totally deflected the question about 275 per week not being enough money for families

It's easier to attack and talk as loud as you can to prove you're right and when you're being proven wrong, pivot. Then attack and talk as loud as you can...

I don’t know how anybody could look at this team, this roster, and the passion this team plays with and not be excited to be a part of it."
