It's the high-end number. Even if the number is not 40k, the rapid increase in unemployment, which this country hasn't seen, is still going to have long lasting effects, from suicides, homicides, an increase in domestic abuse, and a myriad of mental health issues.

My point is you could have erred on the side of caution and not spit out a Fear Porn number like that. Herd immunity was always going to prevent that number from getting that high even at the worst case scenario. It was a baseless number meant to strike fear into the population, nothing more. That's not to say that numbers less than that can't also have dire consequences, but that figure was disingenuous from the word "go".
