He shouldn't have been. I'm very (perhaps overly) critical of amateur scouting sites and he's an example why.

They constantly mentioned the hands and uber talent, but didn't question why it didn't translate into meaningful production.

"If he's a good hitter, why doesn't he hit good?"

- Michael Ghofrani

it's not their job to explain that...their job/career is based upon what players do in the years leading up to their draft year...this is what they do for a living

"Casey Mittelstadt is an exceptional talent, and I am talking NHL assets, where he has speed, offensive hockey sense, scoring touch, scoring ability and able to process and play the game at a top speed. What we like about him, we've seen him in different environments, whether it is World Junior camps, U-18, U-17, USHL, he plays the same game, he produces the same results. He impacts. You know you are dealing with a special player when they can go into any environment and impact the same way." - Dan Marr, Director NHL Central Scouting (TSN 1040)

"Very explosive and will challenge the opposing defenseman one on one at this level. Very good puck skills in tight areas and will not shy from contact to make a play. He is more of a choppy skater and will need to become more fluid to have better pace at the higher level." - Jose Charbonneau, International Scouting Services 2017 NHL Draft Guide (isshockey.com)

"Mittelstadt is a dynamic playmaker who can generate scoring chances in bunches. He can dangle in open ice with the best of them, can play with pace and make a highlight happen at any given moment. Mittelstadt sees the ice very well, often executing on high-difficulty feeds and serving as a primary starting point of offense. His skating isn't as dynamic as his hands, but he skates well and has that extra separation gear in his feet. Off the puck he isn't as great, as he loses more battles than he should." - Corey Pronman, ESPN (ESPN.com)

This is exactly what im talking about though all im seeing here is he's got all these exceptional tools, but no explanation why his on ice impact was about the same as some skaters who were ranked 20-25.

It's an outdated mode of scouting and teams are starting to catch on to it. I remember leading up to the 2017 draft one site in particular with multiple collaborators/contributors ran the numbers on potential first round picks and warned people about Mittelstadt.

Two of them now work for the Kings and Blue Jackets.

People can list hockey players that have struggled like casey but people are missing the important factor its up to casey he has the Potential to be a top 10 player in the league its on him..

he could Easily take over the nhl
Nathan MacKinnon was not the player he was today He didn't work nearly hard enough and He just got by on his amazing Talent but he actually buckle down Worked his ass off and became one of the most dominant players in the nhl

Casey can do this it's just up to him

in looking at the 2017 draft, from six on down looks to be a crap shoot...kings picked gabe vilardi at #11 and those around mitts are still developing

2017 draft was one of the worst of the decade.

A few gems in the top 5 though in Heiskanen and Pettersson. Rest of the first round was highly disappointing though.

Carolina got Necas at 13 I believe ? And he’s a stud.

it's also worth taking a look at organizations and individual players development paths...necas was drafted into a solid organization and also spent a full year in the minors before making the jump

Makar as well in the top 5.

Thomas has had a nice start to his career and Chytil had a pretty good season IIRC

The site primarily just gathers and sorts the data but the owner may do one on his twitter account.

When I do mine these numbers will go into the draft model.
