This take is as silly as people blindly discounting anything Leafy.

It's not that crazy. Obviously he is a good goalie but I would agree he's been a lot more hype than results in his career. In a 12 year career, he's got one Vezina win, and one finalist. Coincidentally, in Vasilevsky's 5 year career, he has one win and one finalist.

I agree he has been heavily overrated, by many. Many talk of him like he's the best of our generation, and I thoroughly disagree. If you wanna look at vezina finishes, Pekka Rinne has actually fared really well. Finalist 4 times. And really, had he not had that vertigo injury that messed up a couple of his seasons, he would be pretty consistently near the very top in Vezina voting. SerBob has 2 vezinas. It's not that Price is a bad goalie, he's a top 10 NHL goalie, but he's never lived up to the billing he got.

Vasil all day everyday, Price is one of the most overrated goalies in the history of hockey.

If Price is so good like some of you donkey's claim that he is then why can't he get his team in the playoffs?, this year would have been 4 of the last 5 years that they missed the playoffs, great franchise goalies get their teams in the playoffs even if the rest of the team isn't very good.

Carey Price is overrated. He had one incredible season and the rest have been good. He is a great goalie but certainly not the world beater that everyone makes him out to be.
That being said. If i am Tampa, i think i go with Price over Vas.

Rask > Price > Vas

I am biased obviously but the argument can be made.

Vasy, there's no point in playing pretend and saying if Price had this team or that team blah blah. Do we know if Vasy would have just as good numbers as price on Montreal? No. Do we know if Price would have just as good as Vasy's numbers in Tampa? No. Do we know if there's some Caveman from 20,000 years ago that if he had all the training a current era goalie has would be 1000x better than them? No.

Vasy > Price.

If it was a tournament, I'd say Price. Most overrated NHL goalie in his era. He has done nothing in the NHL. Wait, what about all his individual accolades? They are exactly that, individual accolades. In the best "team" game in the world. When he gets a Cup, maybe he will be one of the greats. Until then, he is just another Curtis Joseph or Ron Hextall, along with King Henrik. Pretty good goalies, but I believe you need at least one Cup to be considered great. Don't get me wrong, there are some Stanley Cup winning goalies whoe are not "great", but I would take the majority of Stanley Cup winning goalies over both of these guys, JMO

So is anyone actually going to dig up any advanced statistics for comparison or are we all going to just blast out our blatantly subjective bias bs?

So... Matthews is just "another player" cuz... he hasn't won the CUP or even an MVP. amitite?

Rask has never won - but I'd take him over many of the SC winners.

Price 2.49 / 0.917
Vas 2.55 / 0.919

Very similar numbers. Price has been doing it longer on a crappier team.

But it's more fun when it's entirely subjective... no?

Price has played for a team that is light years behind Tampa. In fact, he is so good, I think he holds them back from completely bottoming out.

As of right now I’d give the edge to Vasy. I could argue that Tampa makes him look better than what he is but you also didn’t see Crawford getting vezina nominations for that very reason.

But also for that very reason I would pick prime price every day if that was a choice. Montreal iced a bottom 10 roster in the league for a majority of the past decade but when price was healthy he carried them to the playoffs. Im no Montreal fan but I’m a believer that if Montreal had iced even just an above average team in front of him he would probably have at least 1 cup ring.

Right now one will be 26 this summer the other will be 33. So I would want the younger one who is entering his prime years right now. He is paid to much on this new contract but when Vasy is locked in he is incredibly hard to beat and his consistency is getting better every year he is in the league.

The great goalies in NHL history could carry their teams to the playoffs, the Habs scored a ton of goals last season so there is no excuse for them not making the playoffs & therefore i blame Price for not making the playoffs, especially last season.

That’s why I said I would give the edge to Vasy as the question was about who’s better right now. Price in his prime was arguably the best goalie in the league but hasn’t been the same since his concussion in 2018 and at his age likely won’t be getting any better

Gilbert brule , is not french talking canadian ...

and Carey price all the way ...
would have a cup if kreider was not a goalie killer ...
and put him in tampa would have a cup too ... vasilevskiy is not a top playoff performer...
- Galchy

How many years are we going to hear about this?
Maybe put a little of the blame on Emelin for swinging his stick into Kreider's feet? Sure, he was trying for the puck, but that doesn't change the fact that swinging it hard into Kreider's right leg forced it back into a position where when he tried to dig in to stop, he had no way of doing anything more than lose his balance.
Way to label a guy for his entire career because your Dman got beat so badly the only play he could make was a desperate, dangerous one.
