You might want to consider the possibility that it would likely cost the owners more to enact these kinds of procedures than they would make from putting the games on.
That is if the NHLPA would even go along with it in the first place. - Tomahawk
Oh costs will not be the issue at all. Everyone can stay in their homes. Wear a electronic tag at all times that can be remotely tracked to ensure compliance, as well as a camera mounted on entry points to ensure no visitors.
Daily testing for say 1000 people tops will probably be $50k a day.
Food supplied by NHL. Delivered by tested workers. Again $200k a day, $200 a person.
Sanitized cars with tested drivers come and pick player up for practice and games, drop them back. A crew of 20 off in the arenas disinfect all surfaces relevant to players including weights, machines etc, etc. $10k a day will do it.
We come to say $300k a day. That's chump change. They will get ten times that from each game.
The biggest issue would be buying into it.
And that, my friend, is correlated to what I wrote earlier.

ugh....discussing this stuff is annoying.
let's talk Flyers stuff!
Flyperbole just did a ranking of all Flyers sweaters of all time (14 of them i think). it's pretty on point.
bviously the crappy early 2000's orange with the silver in the logo (think Senators brawl) was the worst. what an awful jersey.
the 80's-90's road orange and home whites were #1 and #2 respectively. I agree with this. those are THE FLYERS to me. I do like the current sweaters but i'd love to see a throwback with those bad boys on!
what are your favorites? |

I going to give you a very simple, simple "algorithm" and see if it registers. If that level of isolation is needed to play, then it is not safe to play. They shouldn't be playing.
It's that simple. - MJL
I think you mean sensible instead of safe in the bolded.
Else, the phrase 'needed' and 'not safe' combine to make that sentence an oxymoron (if the needed threshold has been met, then by definition it is safe to play).

Strawman arguments. Bad analogies. Made up fantasy algorithms, quantum physics and now players under house arrest wearing ankle bracelets and homes under lock down and estimates of costs that are ridiculously way off base. Just no credibility whatsoever.

I heard players will resume games tomorrow!
Of course they will play 6 feet apart at all times and the winning team gets toilet paper.

Tell you what, buen amigo.
The rationing has started in NYC. Who gets a ventilator and who not. Age, condition, etc. etc.
And I will tell you this. It breaks my heart. It rips me apart. |

If so, then you should agree that all the limited tests and PPE on hand need to go toward saving lives and equipping first responders/medical staff, not showered on pro athletes and their families so we can be entertained.
It's already disgusting that celebrities, athletes and politicians are being prioritized when every day people still need to show symptoms or travel history to procure tests in most areas. |

He forgot to add no carnal activities among players and wives/girlfriends. Chastity belts will be applied to force compliance. Can't allow the close contact while resuming the season.

Yeah, the first time I posted this a few days back, I mentioned that tests need to be plentiful and not an issue should this happen. I do think that will be the case by end May.
Alternatively, we could have a Hunger Games scenario. The masses will toil hardscrabble and die. The games will be broadcast from large HD digital displays over their suffering, like in Times Square.
It will be a glorious paean to capitalism. Survival of the fittest, and exponential rewards to those at the top will coincide, be captured and rebroadcast in of course very high res. |

Wives/gfs/f-buddies can be included in the sequestered group.
Also, high quality porn will be streamed in to players who want it. This last part will be paid for by increasing your bill, MJL, and just yours. |

I have a question for you. Wimbledon announced that they were cancelling their tournament scheduled for the end of June into July. That is just one venue with a much, much smaller group of people involved compared to restarting the NHL season. Any idea why they didn't consider something along with what you've been suggesting? Do you think you could email them your algorithm? I love Wimbledon tennis. The action on the grass surface is wonderful. |

I did. But they said that punk Djokovich would win again and Andy Murray was terrible this year, so they wanted to cancel anyway. |

I cant stand the new black with dark orange numbering and lettering. Can't tell who the heck the player is until they zoom in. Lousy contrast.
The black jerseys with the white numbers back in the 2000s and until a few years ago was good. |

I really can’t believe that I back read today.
I don’t know if you were discussing a time frame like this summer but any exist strategy from this quarantine/social distancing time is going to rely on the antibody testing results. Active virus testing isn’t enough to resume. We’ll see.

It's an honest question. Why dodge it? You said the roadblocks are easily surmountable and it was feasible. Why aren't events like Wimbledon considering something similar to your plan? Are you the only one who can come up with an algorithm? |

I also said the idea was too draconian (the restrictions) and too inegalitarian (the surfeit of testing)to be accepted by advanced societies.
That is however different from the practicality and the economic feasibility. The latter would not be a significant issue.
My workday is finally over. Dinner calls. Ciao for now. |
