Killer stuff bill!

Man, I’m kinda annoyed at all these “what’s the point! Just shut it down!” peeps everywhere. If you don’t want to get your hopes up, read some books and don’t worry about it! The timelines that are being thrown around, some of them don’t start for months. Chillax!

I don't think he will score enough points each year to make his contract seem appropriate. I really don't care though. He has solidified this team down the middle. He is also a much better leader than I thought. I don't like the contract numbers but I love the player.

After watching Patrick not really take a step forward in his second year the team needed to do something there (middle), Giroux, Voracek and JVR weren't getting any younger.

Thing about individual stats is they don't always measure how much the other player improves teammate play. Just to cite one concrete example, Hayes is significantly responsible for Giroux spending almost 1 full minute a game less short-handed this season compared to the last, even with Lindblom out of the line up.

That's a reasonable point and I believe that Hayes all around game will keep him a viable player for the majority of the contract. However I had a concern and still do that in the future, which may not be that far away, he'll play a lesser role making his contract more of an overpay. None of that matters if the Flyers reach their ultimate goal.

If they win the cup this (next?) year they can sign 10 Bobby Ryan’s and release Frost and Farabee....IDC

I was actually wonder if Hayes would have gotten a Selke nomination with Couturier this season by being a 20 goal scorer, leading the league with 6 shorthanded goals and being in somewhat of a checking role.

I personally believe the attitude and how Hayes lightens up things and makes it fun is big part of why the team has played so well. They're having fun out there and are confident. It creates a good atmosphere and it's contagious. Chemistry is very important. A good team always is better than just a collection of individual talent.

Hopefully cap inflation will balance out that decline in performance... 7 mill now may not seem as bad when the cap is 10+ million higher in 5 years.

Relative to the inflation is always a factor but still three years from now 7M will still be a sizable cap hit if his role is reduced. I'm not so sure that people are just going to start going back out in public right away until they know there is a vaccine for this thing. Again, if the Flyers are winning Cups then who cares what so and so is paid.

In one of the ironic twists of life, the global front runner for a vaccine right now is coming from the Chinese:

As I said in another post yesterday, the Flyers (and all NHL teams) should have giveaways of masks with the Flyers logo on them. Sponsored by Toyota, or some other company. Turn these lemons into lemonade and mitigate transmission to a considerable degree. Of course, once it's reasonably safe to get the season going again, if possible.

Actually, yes they do. Look at the places that have slowed it down. Here's a link to how it works in the Czech Republic which has few cases.

For the opposite approach consider this. The area near Milan is the fashion capital of the world. Tens of thousands of Chinese work there (Italy has the highest number of direct flights to China in Europe). For some reason I don't know, a lot of them come from Huabei, the province where Wuhan is.

The Chinese New Year this year was Jan 25. Tens of thousands of these workers went to China and returned after a week to 2 week break. By this time, there was discrimination in the area because of Coronavirus.

The local authorities, fearful of the Chinese leaving an important industry, ran an aggressive campain to "hug a Chinese".

The rest, as they say, is history.

PT, you need to know the truth about how the ChiComs were completely negligent wit this virus. Giving a communist tyrannical regime that puts millions of people in concentration camps and who unleashes a pandemic on the world is a bad position to put yourself in.
