I'll take Tyler Seguin, Vladimir Tarasenko, Kuznenstov over Hall. All won cups.

Outside 1 great year, I think he's overrated, he'll be overpaid his next deal

- AlfieisKing

That’s an insanely idiotic way to judge players. Would you take them over McDavid or Matthews, they didn’t win cups either. Troy Brouwer won a couple of cups, would you take him over Hall?

I think the issue that has developed here is whether or not Lafreniere is going to be a superstar or just a very good player in the NHL. Honestly, I sort of feel the stock (not playing ability) of Taylor Hall in the 2010 draft is appropriate. I think Lafreniere is going to be a great player but he may not reach the pinnacle of superstardom like other first overalls.

Like the 2010 draft, there will be other players that put together star careers like Seguin, Tarashenko, Kuznestov, etc. All this really demonstrates to me is the importance of picks after number 1 whether we have it or not.

I'm honestly excited for the draft but when you look at drafts from the last 10 years, there are loads of hits and misses when picking in the top 5 / top 10. So important for the Sens to get 2 hits and possible a 3rd hit with the Islanders pick.

Since the glory years of Sam Pollock, every francophone superstar has headed south of the border. If the Sens don't win the lottery, I would be pleased to see Montreal achieve their impossible dream.

If Lafreniere does come to Ottawa, he will have an initial franchise impact comparable to the early Crosby in Pittsburgh. The Pens were a struggling franchise playing in a half empty, dilapidated building.. Not saying Lefreniere will be as good as Crosby. But he will be a star, he is francophone and he would be playing in a market where it makes a huge difference to 40% of the immediate fan base. It would also make a huge difference to the television networks that broadcast the Sens games in Quebec and the Maritimes.

If I am looking to expand my footprint within the francophone community, a team led by Chabot and Lefrenier plus the personality of Tkachuk, in any language, is a spectacular core group.

For sure. I don’t discount the impact Lafreniere would have going to Ottawa or Montreal. I’m simply referring to overall ceiling potential. He could very well turn into a generational talent but it is not as sure of a thing as Crosby, McDavid, or Ovechkin were. I think that sometimes get lost in the conversation. Heck, I’m not sold he will reach Matthews, Stamkos, Mckinnon, etc level. I do think he is the consensus #1 and she be picked there 10 times out of 10 times.

It s his just me that think if this scenario don’t happened, it s the end of the Sens. With the covid hurting the economy I don’t see big attendance for year to come , and broadcast company lost money gonna want the reduced his deal. I have hope we sign Tkachuk this summer but now forget it, just if player start ask less money

The TV deal with TSN and Rogers is pretty set in stone from my understanding. I don’t think that will be affected.

The Sens had next to zero more income coming in once the season was called off, so the bottom line is probably the same. Fans will still not be showing up in droves next season regardless of who is on the ice or what money people have to spend.

I don’t think it’s doom and gloom considering the circumstances. Whole world is getting dealt the same hand. Will be a long road back to normalcy but will be done collectively.

I could see fans come back if a superstar is drafted who lives up to the lofty expectations. But that's a big if.

On finances, the cap could wind up going down, which Melnyk wouldn't hate, and then Sens could use to weopnoize thei cap space(if they actually had the money).

In the short term we are dealing with shattered economies across North America. High cost major league sports events like hockey will be hit hard in obvious areas such as season ticket sales and corporate suites. But the impact will be far more harsh in the US where there is more competition for the entertainment dollar. Sens will need to lower prices but they will do better than most US and Canadian markets. Ottawa has the highest income level in Canada. There will not be significant job or income loss in Ottawa because of the Federal governments commitment to maintain staff levels.

Because of the overall economic crush, there will be massive infrastructure incentives. Good chance LeBreton gets accelerated. Ottawa already has a huge oversupply of new construction condos coming on the market. There will be intense pressure for a shovel ready project like LeBretton to proceed quickly and pick up the slack within the construction industry.

Honestly man I’m disappointed in how you don’t listen / respect my opinion so I’m not going to respond until then .

It’s not based on cups I’m just highlighting that supporting their significant roles in winning (sequin not as much obv)

Exactly, great post

I may be wrong about my own opinion of A.L. but to be honest this is a draft where I'm not as desperate to have the 1st overall pick.

What should concern us is not make the selections like Cowen, Lazar, and Ceci. And to be fair that's at least 6 years removed from our organization - BUT - Logan Brown is another concern. The potential and tools are there but there's a certain mentality + track to be present for players to achieve that potential. I really like the progression of a guy like Drake Batherson. Say if he was drafted in the 1st round, would he have been fast tracked like a guy like Colin White? I think giving him that contract combined with the role he's been given (essentially #1 mostly, especially with Pageau gone) has put too much pressure on him.

Josh Norris looks like a solid candidate to be a top 2 center but again, unless Logan Brown really takes a jump before the end of this calender year, I think this team desperately needs a true #1 center - hence why I like Byfield or Stutzle coming into this franchise vs a guy like A.L.

Example:

2021 - 2022

Tkachuk - White - Batherson
Lafreniere - Norris - Duclair/Holtz/anyone at #5

vs

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Stutzle - Byfield - Duclair

Again, my original point is this:

I would rather have the Sens get the 2nd & 3rd overall picks (C Quinton Byfield & C/LW Tim Stutzle) RATHER than Sens get 1st & 5th overall picks (LW Alexis Lafreniere & whoever is available at #5 once Byfield, Stutzle and potentially Raymond or Rossi are gone. I might however accept A.L & Raymond over those 2, but then that puts the Sens in a position where they lack a true #1 center; I think Rossi is undersized, I'm sorry)

Centers that are under 5'10:

Tyler Johnson
Jonathan Marchessault

The smallest team in the NHL as of 2018 was MTL. They had an average height of 6 feet. Sure inflated by D-men but still, 5.93 inches is WELL belong the shortest team in the NHL. I'm not knocking Rossi as a player but in a big man's league, I would take Byfield and Stutzle, plus their better
