We get to choose between a giant douche, and a turd sandwich

Heheh,, I said that recently..

I hope a new party comes along soon. Because at this point, I’d vote for the Rhinos over any established party in Canada.

Hitler happened because he crushed his opponents, and pumped massive amounts of propaganda into German society during a time of immense economic despair. People needed something to gravitate towards, and they were desperate.

You’re right in terms of not having options anymore. All the parties give you same result. In America’s case, democracy is dead. I don’t know how it’ll all play out, but I can’t see it being nonviolent.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

The best was Vonnegut talking about America being the example of democracy for the world...after 100 years, you have to free your slaves. 150 years in you can let women vote. And at first if you have to kill millions people who already live there....that's no big deal lol

I always hate ranking players.

What makes another slightly better than the other? Does one guy being 33 and the other 21 change anything? It should.

Matthews took a massive stride this year. I’m sad we don’t get a real playoff run from him this year.

- Santo_44

The list is titled, “top ten players in the NHL,” and I chose that title purposely.

Not players who you’d build a team around, or players with the best contracts.. just for one season, the top ten players who are the best at hockey.

For sure people would argue my take. But it’s my list. 🤷‍♂️

2 out of these 10 were traded, so your argument is not very strong .
- MaximusAurelius

This is true, but boy do those teams that traded those 2 regret those deals.

I hate when people talk about "Cap Hits" with superstar players. The real issue is always overpaying non star players who are easily replaceable for cheaper. And star players can always be moved. An overpaid 3rd liner? Good luck.

Top 10 players in the NHL

McDavid
MacKinnon
Matthews
Panarin
Draisaitl
Crosby
Kucherov
Jones
Pastrnak
Marner

None of these players should ever be talked about in a trade.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

As much as I love his last name, Jones is not having a Jones-like season. No way he should be the only d-man on your list and, if there is only room for 1, it probably shouldn't be him (I'd take Hedman over him in a heartbeat).

But hey, this is your list and I'm bored, I get to nitpick, and you're powerless to stop me!

Yeah, that's the funny part.

It's "negative partisanship", where all the focus is on hating the other team. People voting just to make sure there are no Democrats, or Conservatives, or whatever. Demonizing blue or red is all that matters.

Which leaves people in a position of supporting one party no matter what they say or do. Everything is the fault of the other guy, or now, in a truly sad development, the media.

Partisans have basically decided to choose a one party state where no criticism is permitted and all opponents are enemies of the people. People wonder how Hitler happened....

- Zezel

Yep. All it does it polarize/entrench people/parties which makes it harder to get anything accomplished. Going to end up like the U.S. at that rate

“Oh you think building a wall is stupid? lol libtard wants open borders”

I didn’t love everything Harper did but it never kept me up at night. Ditto for Trudeau.

My ideal government is socially liberal, runs at least a balanced budget (preferably a surplus to chip away at national debt), has a long-term strategy that supports our natural resource industries while addressing environmental/climate concerns (people need to stop treating these like mutually exclusive considerations) and otherwise leaves people alone. I don’t mind higher taxes if that’s what it takes to balance a budget because sweet poop like critical infrastructure, healthcare and affordable education is not free and good for the general populace).

Pretty much agree.

I wish more people would be the fiercest critic of the guy they voted for instead of treating it like team sports. I've voted for three different parties in different fed and provincial elections. I view the guy I voted for, if he wins, as someone to harshly scrutinize and criticize, not parrot whatever he says like a fanboy.

We need more independent citizens and less tribal partisans. All the parties can suck my balls.

Dear Sports God:

Just please give me back sports to watch on the weekend, and I will never again complain about when you give us a Cleveland Browns vs. NY Jets game to watch. I'll watch it with a smile on my face.

its the free pass that Jt gets from the media that is most irritating. Governments giving media cash should not be allowed.

I don't know man, I've seen a lot of critical stuff on Trudeau; about SNC Lavalin; reneging on proportional representation; being style over substance; being not progressive enough; being too progressive. I don't know where you're seeing a free pass. He got reduced to a minority government in the last election. I don't see a free ride from the media or the electorate at all.

Yeah.

If I ran a team, I’d build from the blue line out, and keep young, fast players up front, top paid forwards get 6.5-7 mil.

Yeah..

But I think more stuff should be nationalized, not in a commie way, just in a more financially prudent way. Internet, phone, school, healthcare, etc should all be “free”.. And if people need a job, the gov’t should provide work for people who want it, mainly infrastructure or servicing sectors. Also, if for whatever reason you can’t work, then there should be a basic income program. Seniors shouldn’t be living on $600/mth or whatever it is. And tax tf out of billionaires/multi millionaires.

I don't man, they reported on all of that stuff. Their mandate is to be critical of the government. I know this is the received narrative on the right, that public broadcasters are biased in their coverage but I think it's a facile narrative with nothing to back it up in reality beyond stating that it is so. I know people at CBC, they don't have any mandate to serve the Liberals, most of them don't give a (frank) actually.
