I say trade him now and get some assets back while you can (he's UFA after next season). There's a glut of goalies on the UFA market this season that you could possibly sign for half of what Freddie currently makes. Or the Leafs could look at bringing in a guy like Timur Bilyalov, who seemingly defies reality at 5'10, as a backup.
Use the money you're saving on his contract to put towards signing Pietro.
Let's not forget that a guy like Lehner was a legit Vezina candidate with the right pieces in front of him. If the Leafs shore up their d-corps with a stud RHD (playing 25-26 mins a night) and make sure that forwards are committed to a 200' game, I don't see why we necessarily need Freddie in net.
I'm really thinking the Leafs will have a tough time re-signing him when he hits the market after next season. That's one of the things that concerns me most. I'd hate for him to walk and have nothing to show for it. - mjones242
These are my thoughts too.
If there is a season this year, how Andersen plays in the playoffs will go a long way for his future with the team. |

With the unexplainably high grade the Leafs d-men received here they should have the top defense in the league instead of one of the softest, mistake pron and over-rated one in the NHL.: - islansjet
Leafs are better and younger than Jets. Why don't you stick your head up your ass to see if it fits? After that you can suck Zezel's balls

I understand that, but Freddy has done so much for the team, and I’m not ready to give up on him yet. The Leafs went so long w/o a legit starter. Now that we have Campbell to take some of the workload, I expect Freddy’s numbers to improve. And if they figure out the defensive woes, I think he could be a vezina candidate again. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Fine but nothing in his stats or accomplishments says he deserves some long-term deal at 7 million+ per.
NHL is going to a 2 goalie system. If he wants some big contract he won't get it. He's not Marner or Matthews. |

It's hilarious they think he made an amazing economy. Obama's last 3 years were better economically than anything he's given them and he's doubled the debt in under 4 years.
The damage he' s doing will be felt for years.
Joe Exotic would have done a better job if he got elected in 2016 |

My mind is blown.
Reading Mirtle in the Athletic, somebody asked what the Leafs would do if the NHL decides to grant each team one compliance buyout.
Mirtle said the Leafs wouldn't need it.
I laughed my ass off - FFS, it's the Leafs!
And then I realized - holy poop, they really wouldn't need to buy out anyone.
What the hell is going on?

Their assistance packages are hilariously bad, because Trump painted them into a corner fiscally.
Nothing like cutting taxes and increasing spending at the same time - what could possibly go wrong?
The whole "should we bail out the cruise industry" thingy is heating up. I'm just going to poop my pants with laughter if they bail out companies that don't pay US taxes. |

Freddy and Lehner are in the same category (said that when Lehner was a UFA, before he joined the Islanders).
You cannot have a worse goalie (Campbell) in net and expect that you're set in goal. - MaximusAurelius
Lehner was awful in Buffalo. Change of scenery with a team that plays excellent D in front of him? Result = Vezina candidate.
The Leafs have a single season left with a UFA-pending goalie who has been inconsistent and has not shown that he can be a big game goalie.
Not understanding the Freddie love or that the Leafs should really be so desperate as to need to keep him between the pipes.
Seems pretty clear to me the team needs to be committed to team defense. If they do that, who knows what JC is capable of?
Certainly no one expected Lehner to be lights out.
Speaking of RN, interesting that he was mediocre with Chicago but has been great with VGK. Why could that be? |

Buyout marner then immediately sign him to a lower cap hit.
Or are they not allowed to sign them again after buying them out. |

Republicans were able to sneak a tax change into relief package worth $120 B to richest real estate tycoons (cough Trump, Kushner)

Ill give him credit for listening to experts (after initially saying dumb things like go away for march break), and cracking down on people jacking up prices on panic buy items |

I know. He’s shut up and listened to the people who know what’s going on. He might have acted a bit slowly but that’s true of just about everyone. Having said that it doesn’t help that funding to hospitals have left us vulnerable |
